In "Boiling Point - PromTechDesign," the finalists of the design project competition, established in honor of the 20th anniversary of the REDMOND brand in Russia, were honored. According to the results of the selection of the jury, the winner was a fourth-year student of the Institute of Spatial Environment Design of Ƶ Alexandra Savelyeva.
Its concept of the central object "REDMOND Zones," made under the guidance of Andrey Zuev, Associate Professor of the Department of Interior Design and Equipment of St. Petersburg State Pedagogical Institute, will be implemented at Pulkovo Airport.
The organization of the development of design projects on the instructions of the international brand-manufacturer of household appliances was supervised by the SmartDesign bureau of Ƶ. 38 young designers (third and fourth year students) took part in the competition for the development of concepts for the "REDMOND Zone" at the St. Petersburg airport. The project performers were faced with the task of creating objects that can be organically integrated into the passenger's logic; unobtrusively accompany from check-in to departure; provide comfort while waiting for departure; encourage passengers to take memorable photos and share new experience of interacting with the brand.
The contestants had to consider the possibility of developing facilities united by a single concept in airport locations with a total area of 160 m ². The list for design includes: an art object in the registration area, branded zones in the waiting room and photo zones.
"The university environment is a source of promising ideas and developments in the field of design and technology. Many solutions that eventually find application in life begin with student projects. Therefore, it is important for us to support young professionals and cooperate with educational institutions, helping such initiatives to develop," said Diana Zhelyaskova, General Director of the REDMOND Group of Companies.
Winner's project.
At the heart of Alexandra's design project is the idea that we think most of all about home when we're on the go. A branded waiting area will be created in the south wing of the airport, which demonstrates the connection of household appliances with air travel. Here, passengers will be able to comfortably spend time sitting in comfortable individual chairs or on a modular sofa equipped with built-in sockets for recharging gadgets.
"The central object of the zone is an installation in the form of a house with three sections, each of which is responsible for its own segment of the brand's products. So, in the kitchen section there is a technique for cooking food and drinks; in the living room there are a variety of home assistants, and in the bathroom there are gadgets for beauty and health. The installation combines aesthetics and functionality, working as a full-fledged showcase with a real range of products," the author comments.
The interior of the waiting area is designed in the company's corporate colors. Passengers will be able to learn more about the REDMOND brand project by passing the QR code. The author integrated it into the wall image of the house to the left of the central installation. "REDMOND zone" will take its place of honor in the air harbor of St. Petersburg this summer.
"The Institute of Spatial Environment Design of Ƶ has been successfully cooperating with leading state and commercial organizations of St. Petersburg for many years. One of the key features of the educational process is the integration of real production tasks into the educational program. This approach contributes to mutual enrichment: partner companies receive bold design solutions developed by students and teachers, and students acquire practical skills in solving urgent problems, teamwork experience and opportunities for professional growth in real facilities. Applying a competitive approach to the implementation of joint projects allows achieving high results, many of which are successfully implemented in practice. This format of cooperation confirms the effectiveness of the integration of education and business and contributes to the further development of partnerships," comments Andrey Zuev, project manager, associate professor of the Department of Interior Design and Equipment at Ƶ.
