19 May

Students of the Institute of Applied Arts Ƶ this year prepared an exhibition entitled "From Image to Stage" as part of the IV season of the international cultural and humanitarian youth project "Opera & Podium." The gala concert of the project was held on the stage of the concert hall of Ƶ.

On the eve of the event in the training workshops of the department of technology of artistic processing of materials and jewelry, technological students developed and made fantasy masks in the material - images of characters of Italian operas, which became real artifacts and peculiar symbols of the characters of the characters of opera works.

Students designed sketches of masks in an exhibition called "From Image to Stage," the exposition of which is located in the lobby of the main building at 18 Bolshaya Morskaya Street and includes twenty-one masks. You can see fantastic masks and feel the atmosphere of opera futurism until May 22 inclusive. Each mask is the result of a deep artistic rethinking of opera images. Students were inspired by the arias and characters of the heroes of the operas "The Wedding of Figaro," "The Barber of Seville," "Betrothal in a Monastery," "Everyone Does This" and "Love Drink."

Work on the collection was carried out for several months under the strict guidance of a mentor - associate professor of the department of technology for artistic processing of materials and jewelry Ƶ, candidate of technical sciences, member of the Creative Union of Artists of Russia Marina Dudnik.

"For our students, it was a unique art and craft synthesis experience. We set the task not only to copy the stage image, but to create a fantasy interpretation, while maintaining a high technological quality. As a basis, we used plaster and papier-mâché, complementing the surfaces with lace and ribbons. A single coloristic solution made it possible to achieve the integrity of the entire composition. The guys brilliantly coped with the task, turning the cold material into interesting and expressive images," the teacher noted.

Participation in the Opera & Podium project of students of the Institute of Applied Arts of Ƶ made it possible to go beyond the curriculum, work with a serious cultural code and gain experience in international collaboration.

"When we work on the mask of an opera character, we actually create a new visual biography of him. It's not just a face ornament - it's a character, an emotion, sometimes a whole drama. Our work is now part of a large international dialogue, and this is very inspiring," said one of the project participants, student Ksenia Petrova.
