A meeting of the Council of Rectors of universities of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region was held at the St. Petersburg State University of Industrial Technology and Design. The meeting was attended by Governor Alexander Beglov and Speaker of the Legislative Assembly Alexander Belsky. The Chairman of the Council is Alexey Demidov, Rector of Ƶ. The mayor noted the quality of higher education in the Northern Capital.

There are more than 140 universities and vocational education institutions in the city. At the same time, Petersburgers get the opportunity to study science even in childhood: modern laboratories are being created in schools.

"Our city is one of the largest scientific and educational centers in the country. Every fifth economically active resident is employed in the field of science and education. Thanks to your work, St. Petersburg is among the leaders in the rating of scientific and technological development of the regions. Of course, this is the result of the systematic work of scientific schools, research centers, the government of St. Petersburg and the legislative Assembly," said Governor Alexander Beglov.

The mayor and the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly also met with the youth community of the city in the hall of the Academic Council of St. Petersburg State University of Industrial Technologies and Design. The meeting was attended by the Student Council of St. Petersburg, the St. Petersburg branch of the organization "Russian Student Groups", the Council of Working Youth, participants of the All-Russian student project "Your Move", the Youth Parliament at the Legislative Assembly and the Youth College of St. Petersburg. The university was represented by Svetlana Levina, a member of the Ƶ Student Council. The Governor noted the high achievements of students at various Olympiads, including international competitions.

Alexander Beglov congratulated the students on the occasion of the Russian Student Day and thanked them for participating in the celebrations dedicated to breaking the siege of Leningrad and the complete liberation of the city from the enemy siege.

Answering a question about the participation of St. Petersburg residents in the upcoming International Youth Festival in Yekaterinburg, Alexander Beglov said that the city would be represented by a delegation of almost two hundred people.

And the St. Petersburg International Youth Forum will be held in the Northernmost capital in the fall. The previous one took place last year after a six-year hiatus. According to the governor, the possibility of making this forum an annual event is being considered.

The students were interested in which of the modern youth projects they should take part in. Alexander Beglov advised me to try my hand as volunteers who help people of "silver" age.

"This is a great opportunity to learn about the rich life experiences of the older generation, to touch their wisdom and knowledge",— the governor noted.

The students asked for assistance in the creation and development of youth councils at St. Petersburg enterprises. Alexander Beglov supported the idea, but noted that the work should be based on the joint initiative of young people and the management of enterprises, their sincere interest in productive cooperation.

The meeting focused on the 82nd anniversary of the complete liberation of Leningrad from the Nazi blockade.

"You are our heirs. We hope for you, we are sure that you will not let us down. Many students from student organizations in St. Petersburg have already gone through a special military operation and written their page in the history of St. Petersburg and Russia. A foreign conqueror's boot has never set foot in our city. And he won't, because you are worthy heirs of the memory of your ancestors. I wish you to be real sons and daughters of your country," Alexander Beglov addressed the students.
