The international forum "Space and Object in Design" was held at the Boiling Point – PromTechDesign of Ƶ, which was attended by experts in the field of architecture, design and art from Russia and countries near and far abroad, including India and South Africa. The program of the forum included a contest of student papers "The space of search and mastery". Students from Russia, India, China, Tajikistan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Georgia and Moldova presented their projects in the field of environmental design, interior design, subject design, painting and graphics. The design concept of a cinema restaurant in the style of Soviet modernism, the ergonomic design of a chair for recreational areas, the design project of a drone for video filming, the projects of a country house for a married couple, an apartment for a music producer and a residential complex in the center of St. Petersburg – these and other projects were presented by students of the University of Industrial Technologies and Design at the competition.
As part of the Environmental Design nomination, the contest participants demonstrated their projects for residential complexes, community centers, private homes, and public recreational areas.
Maria Chistokhina, a student of Ƶ, became the winner of the competition in the category "Private country house project". The designer has designed an apartment building for a sixty-year-old couple Maxim and Diana.
"Maxim is a historian-archaeologist, professor. Diana is the director of a real estate agency. The couple has two adult children and a grandson who often come to visit. Maxim and Diana have a lot of friends, they really like to receive guests. In addition, they have a home library and a collection of household items from different eras. It was also important to take into account that there is only one car in the family. As part of the project, I managed to place a two-storey house on the site, which includes a kitchen-living-dining area, three master bedrooms, a utility block with a guest bathroom, a laundry room, a boiler room and a dressing room, an office, a winter garden and two balconies-terraces. There is also a garage, private and communal terraces, a sauna complex with a swimming pool."
says Maria Chistokhina, a student at Ƶ
Eva Lobzineva, a student at Ƶ, won in the "Community Center Project" category, presenting the design development of a creative cluster. The concept is a unique space combining coworking spaces, exhibition spaces and trading platforms created to support and develop creative industries.
"The creative cluster will serve as a place where creative people can work, share experiences and ideas. Coworking spaces will provide places for comfortable work that promote productivity and creativity. The exhibition and trading platforms will be designed to showcase the work of local artists, designers and artisans. This will create a platform to promote their creativity and attract the attention of a wide audience. The creative cluster will become not only a place to work, but also a cultural center that promotes the development of creative industries and the strengthening of the creative community."
adds Eva Lobzineva, a student at Ƶ
In the Residential Complex Project category, the first place was taken by Anna Kryukova and Elizaveta Bogacheva, students of Ƶ, who jointly designed a residential complex in the Central District of St. Petersburg, between Bakunin Avenue, Evgenevskaya and Starorusskaya Streets. It was important for the designers to create a space that meets high standards of sustainability and functionality and provides residents with a comfortable life. Therefore, much attention is paid to landscaping: green areas, playgrounds and sports grounds, as well as recreation areas.
"The green area on the second floor of the residential complex is a unique space created exclusively for residents. This is a private area that provides comfort and security. Functional areas include relaxation areas with comfortable benches, playgrounds and covered corners with armchairs. The facades of the building are lined with large milky-white limestone panels, which in combination with panoramic windows create a unique atmosphere of lightness and airiness in the architecture of the building. The facades of the first floor of commerce, made of darker, earthy shades, serve as a contrast to them. The paths on the territory are lined with large-format paving slabs, providing comfortable movement. A coating of rubber chips of various shades has been chosen for playgrounds, it has good cushioning properties, which reduces the risk of injury from falls, while creating an attractive gaming environment."

In the "Interior Design" category, the contestants offered their works in the field of residential and public interior design to the jury. The best interior for private housing was designed by Tatiana Totoeva, a student at Ƶ. The designer created a project for the apartment of a 27-year-old young man who works as a music producer.
"There is a large living room – TV area in the space, as the customer's friends and colleagues often come to watch a movie together. I paid special attention to creating a studio office for comfortable work from home. The predominant white color in the interior allows you to visually enlarge the space, and the textured surfaces of the walls, bright color accents and contrasting black reflect the character of the customer."

The best public interior was designed by Diana Olskaya, a student of Ƶ, who presented the design concept of the cinema restaurant "Wick" in the style of Soviet modernism at the competition.
"Since the history of Wick originates from a film magazine that was produced from 1962 to 2003, and a TV show that aired at the same time, the idea was based on elements of the era of Soviet modernism, which flourished then. The concept of a cinema-restaurant in the style of Soviet modernism suggests a combination of functionality and elegance typical of the architecture of that time. The interior uses copper, glass and wood. Special attention is paid to details, such as Soviet mosaics, which also reflect the spirit of that time."
explains Ƶ student Diana Olskaya
The cinema-restaurant has various areas for a comfortable stay: a cinema room, a lounge area, a cinema club for meetings of movie lovers. Each zone has its own unique atmosphere, but at the same time harmoniously fits into the overall concept of the institution.
Gayane Grigoryan, a student at Ƶ, won first place in the competition in the "Subject Design" category in the "Industrial Design" category, having developed a drone design project for video shooting.
"For my design, I have developed three types of folding beams for a quadcopter, so that you can use the copter both in flight and in view of a tripod."
says Gayane Grigoryan, a student at Ƶ
And the first place for the best subject design in the category "Furniture Design" was taken by Alexander Smerdin, a student of Ƶ, with his chair project called "AVART".
"The ergonomic design of the chair is inspired by the herb garden and the architecture of New Holland. It is suitable for both adults and children and is made of recycled aluminum. The chair is also resistant to external influences, so it is ideal for recreational areas."
