The XXVII Assembly of Young Scientists and Specialists was held at Ƶ

On December 19, 2024, the winners of several city scientific and educational competitions were solemnly awarded in St. Petersburg. The XXVII St. Petersburg Assembly of Young Scientists and Specialists was held at the St. Petersburg State University of Industrial Technology and Design.

The Assembly is the largest event that allows you to showcase the best scientific projects of young researchers in the city, to popularize their achievements in various fields. During the meeting, the winners of several scientific and educational competitive selections, which have been held in the Northern Capital since 1994, were awarded. Among them are 320 scholarship holders of the Government of St. Petersburg who have shown outstanding abilities and achieved significant success in educational, research, social, cultural, creative and sports activities (among them are recipients of scholarships from prominent figures of the 20th century — Galina Starovoitova, Andrey Petrov, Daniil Granin and Zhores Alferov); 440 winners of the competition grants for undergraduates and postgraduates of city and federal universities; 221 winners of the competitive selection for grants to young scientists and candidates of sciences.

On the eve of the Assembly, round tables were held in the city on natural sciences, humanities, and technical sciences: mechanics, physics. In addition, an exhibition of youth achievements was held at the Ƶ Concert Hall as part of the Assembly itself. The students presented human scanning and 3D printing technologies, the exhibition included a prototype of the first domestic AR headset, a dress representing Russia at Miss Universe 2024, a VR simulator, a firefighter's suit made of thermo-fire-resistant fibrous materials, counter-sensors for counter-stamping, procedural flight simulators, drones.

"Today, about 900 people have received certificates, diplomas of victories, about the competitions won. Almost all the rectors of St. Petersburg universities are present here. I am sure that when they learned about their laureates, every university was really proud of them."

For the first time, the honorary titles "Honored Worker of Higher Education of St. Petersburg" were awarded within the framework of the assembly. The winners of the award were 15 laureates. The title was established in 2022 and is awarded to highly professional teachers and other employees of educational institutions of higher education who have been active for more than 15 years.

"Starting this year, grants, awards, and scholarships have been increased 1.5-2 times, and the Governor of St. Petersburg, Alexander Beglov, and the government of St. Petersburg highly appreciate your work, because you are the future of St. Petersburg and Russia. Saint Petersburg is the cradle of science and education in Russia, and it was here that Peter the Great established the Academy of Sciences, the university, and the academic gymnasium. Every year we have significant milestones, because professional education and science began their journey in St. Petersburg."

At the solemn meeting of the Assembly, the scientific developments of eleven graduate students and students of the University of Industrial Technology and Design were noted. They became the winners of the grant competition for St. Petersburg university students in 2024. Graduate students of Ƶ Dmitry Barinov and Alexander Batenev - for the restoration of wood machinery body parts with composite materials; graduate student Ekaterina Kudryavtseva - for the production of antimicrobial textile materials modified with bicomponent copper-silver nanoparticles; Anna Baranova - for the modification of agar for use in microbiological practice and the creation of coatings; Yulia Vilacheva - production of gas diffusion layers in the form of fibrous composites with fluoroplastic matrices for hydrogen fuel cells; Eldar Gabdullin - development of a radiation monitoring system in St. Petersburg; Maria Egorova - development of solutions to achieve water quality in the Izhora River; Margarita Romashova - production of microcrystalline cellulose from agricultural crops of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region; Anton Trifanov - automation of the plywood production process; Sofya Fedoruk - study of the thermal characteristics of a combined fuel briquette containing cellulose and synthetic polymers; Nikita Fedyuchenko - GIS project monitoring park areas of St. Petersburg using the example of the Ekaterinhof Park.

Seven young scientists and candidates of science of Ƶ were selected for subsidies in 2024: Marina Egorova for computer forecasting of operational and deformation processes of aramid textile materials; Alexander Kozlov - mathematical modeling of viscoelasticity of polymer textile ropes; Maxim Litvinov - for integration of artificial intelligence into digital quality control systems of paper and cardboard at domestic enterprises; Maria Midukova - for the study of the effect of enzymes on the paper-forming properties of waste paper in the production of containers and packaging materials; Regina Smith - for the technology of processing logging and agricultural waste to produce products for medicine, Nadezhda Fedorets - for the strategy of using artificial intelligence to automate the creation of non-financial reporting in the context of the ESG agenda at Russian enterprises; Ekaterina Chalova - for predicting the operational properties of polymer textile materials to improve the quality of products at the stage of their design and production.

The winners of the St. Petersburg Government scholarship competition included eleven Ƶ students: Alexandra Veretennikova, Emilia Gubarevich, Snezhana Krotova, Anna Kuleshova, Natalia Levchenko, Maria Lisova, Antonina Saprykina, Victoria Skokova, Polina Kharitonova, Alina Zabolotskaya, Tatiana Tyurina.
