The IV International Forum of Graphic Design was a great success in St. Petersburg

The forum presented to the public the most relevant developments and concepts in the field of visual communications. The event brought together designers, specialists working in various aspects of graphics, as well as representatives of design studios, advertising and digital agencies, publishing houses, and web studios. The geography of the forum participants turned out to be impressive: Hungary, Iran, Kazakhstan, China, Belarus, Thailand, and Azerbaijan. The organizer of such a large-scale event was the Institute of Graphic Design of St. Petersburg State University of Industrial Technologies and Design (Ƶ).

The program of the forum was rich and varied: there were lectures and master classes, exhibitions and competitions of creative works, aimed at both professionals and students, scientific and practical conference, as well as excursions to the leading creative studios of St. Petersburg.

The grand opening of the forum was a bright event, where the Director of the Institute of Graphic Design Alina Mikhailovna Sukhareva made a welcoming speech. In her speech she emphasized the unique format of the forum and noted the constant growth of interest to it both from well-known Russian specialists and foreign experts who study modern trends and problems of graphic design. The guests of the forum were also addressed by Alexander Rudin, the first vice-rector, vice-rector for academic work of PROMTECHDESIGN University, Sergey Duzhnikov, the chairman of the board of the St. Petersburg Union of Designers, Svetlana Kuropatkina, the head of the Center for Creative Industries of the Capella, Maria Kuzmicheva, the head of the Department of Painting of the Herzen State Pedagogical University, candidate of art history, Ekaterina Tugolukova, the director of the City Student Press Center of Ƶ, Yekaterina Tugolukova, the senior lecturer of the Department of Design of the Grodno State University named after Y. I. Gorky.

The IX International Scientific and Practical Conference “Graphic Design: Traditions and Innovations” was held within the framework of the forum. The conference became a real platform for the exchange of advanced ideas and discussion of topical issues covering the whole palette of modern artistic practices. The participants of the event presented their reports, focusing on pressing issues, where graphic design is organically intertwined with the latest digital technologies, opening new horizons for creative thought.

The opening of the conference was marked by the start of the key sections. The section “Theory and practice in modern trends of graphic design” was led by Professor of St. Petersburg State University of Industrial Technologies and Design V. V. Laptev. V. Laptev. The hall welcomed 20 speakers, each of whom presented a unique view on the current challenges and prospects of graphic design development in the modern world.

The second section “Design in the digital environment: current issues of theory and practice” was moderated by Prof. N. I. Dvorko (Ƶ). This section brought together 19 speakers, including 8 representatives of foreign countries. Such international participation emphasized the global nature of the topics under discussion and the need for participants from different cultural contexts to work together to create effective solutions in the field of digital design.

The conference participants, including both recognized experts and novice researchers, managed to show that in today's world design is not just the creation of aesthetically pleasing images, but a powerful tool for engagement, interaction and transformation of society.

The forum events united several venues in St. Petersburg at once. Participants gathered in the buildings of the University of Industrial Technologies and Design, the center “Boiling Point - PromTechDesign” Ƶ, the Laboratory of Virtual Fashion and Digital Design Ƶ, the studio of computer animation “Petersburg”, immersive installation “Missing in the newsreel” and the museum and exhibition center “My Petersburg”. Excursions, lectures and master classes were held here for the forum participants. With this event St. Petersburg once again confirmed its reputation as a city where graphic design does not falter, but lives, breathes and actively develops.

A series of master classes organized by leading experts in the field of graphic design, animation, digital media production and game design became one of the most outstanding events of the forum. A special attention was drawn to the master class held by Maria Vladimirovna Kuzmicheva, Head of the Painting Department of Herzen State Pedagogical University, Professor and Candidate of Art History. She revealed in detail the significance of artistic and creative disciplines in the formation of professional qualities of design students, emphasizing their importance in the modern educational process.

No less interesting was the master class of Anton Arkadyevich Glikin, architect, candidate of philosophical sciences and president of the association “Classic City” in New York, who devoted his speech to architectural form formation both in reality and in animation. Anton Arkadyevich demonstrated how ideas and concepts of architecture can be brought to life in many forms of visual art, expanding the understanding of design solutions.

Then Anna Aleksandrovna Zemlyanaya, a 3D graphics specialist in computer game production and 3D printing, spoke. In her master class the audience's attention was focused on digital sculpture, which occupies an important place in computer graphics production and opens wide horizons for creativity and innovative solutions. Animation was also not left without attention: Victoria Viktorovna Yepanyan, Associate Professor at Ƶ, shared her experience in developing facial animation in the After Effects program using the joysticks 'n sliders script. This master class became a real discovery for many participants who wanted to learn new animation techniques.

UI/UX designer, teacher of Ƶ Anna Denisovna Falina also presented her master class devoted to typography and composition, which covered the peculiarities of poster design. Anna Denisovna emphasized the importance of proper choice of fonts and layout elements, which, of course, is of great importance in modern design.

The master class on designing game interfaces was conducted by game designer and teacher of Ƶ Roman Maksimovich Ivanov. His class aroused great interest, because in the modern world games are becoming more and more popular, and the creation of intuitive and attractive interfaces is the key to the success of any project.

Irina Yanyk, Director of the Scientific and Methodological Resource Center for Inclusive and Dual Education at Ƶ, and Victoria Shamina, Editor of User Interfaces for Business at Alfa-Bank, held a master class entitled “The World of Digital Accessibility: Who, Where and How”.

The series of master classes created a platform for sharing experiences and ideas in different areas of design and art.

In December, the main building of the University of Industrial Technology and Design exhibited creative works uniting the participants of the International Exhibition of Teachers and Designers “Dialogue 12: Tradition and Innovation in Contemporary Art”. This significant event brought together under one roof teachers, artists and designers from creative universities of different countries. For participation in the exhibition, works in a variety of directions are accepted, including painting, graphics, sculpture, art objects, photography, as well as projects in the field of graphic design, printing and computer graphics.

A catalog is published as part of the exhibition. Each participant has the opportunity to receive a personalized copy and a diploma testifying to their contribution to this significant event. The catalog of creative works of the Dialogue 12 exhibition includes works by 63 authors, which shows the breadth and diversity of the projects presented. In addition, the International exhibition-competition of design projects, course and diploma works “Master and Apprentice” completed its work within the framework of the forum. More than 120 applications were submitted for participation in this contest-exhibition, which shows the great interest of young talents.

The opening of the forum was marked by the awarding ceremony of the winners of the International Competition “Master and Apprentice”. The jury singled out the most outstanding works that demonstrated a high level of skill and innovative approach. Viewing of audio-visual works created by the participants of the exhibition of the contest “Master and Apprentice” was organized in the Space of Creative and Digital Industries of Ƶ “Boiling Point - PromTechDesign”.
The IV International Forum of Graphic Design became a real platform for the exchange of experience and ideas, strengthening ties between representatives of different countries and art directions.
