16 December

On December 13th in the Boiling Point - PromTechDesign the VII International Scientific Conference “Humanities in Modern Higher Education: Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow” was held, dedicated to the development of university education in Russia. Every year the Department of Social Sciences holds humanities conferences to create a space for intellectual communication.

The opening of the conference began with welcoming words to the participants and guests. Lyudmila Vinogradova, Head of the Department of Educational Work, and Alina Sher, Deputy Director of the Institute of Economics and Social Technologies, expressed their gratitude to everyone involved in the process of organizing the event. Alexander Minin, Head of the Department of Social Sciences, is the ideological inspirer and moderator of the conference.

St. Petersburg scientists, recognized experts in their field, spoke at the plenary session:

  • Doctor of Philological Sciences, Professor of the Department of Advertising and Public Relations of Ƶ Galina Boeva with the topic “PROMTECHDISIGN University and its cultural topography”;
  • Doctor of Philosophy and Professor Olga Demidova spoke from Pushkin Leningrad State University with the report “The Place of Philosophy in the Global Era”;
  • Doctor of Philological Sciences, Professor Marina Samarina from St. Petersburg State University presented the paper “Marco Polo: 700 Years of Discussions”;
  • Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor Elena Gavrilova St. Petersburg University of State Fire Service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia named after E. N. Zinichev “To the question of women's education in France XVI - XVI centuries”.

The issues raised during the scientific conference had a wide horizon for discussion. After the speeches of the speakers, students and guests of the conference took an active part in the discussions and asked all the questions they were interested in.

Annual organization of international scientific conferences of historical and philosophical orientation has become a tradition of St. Petersburg State University of Industrial Technologies and Design. Paying attention to the humanities in the universities of design and technical profile allows to form a truly university educational environment.

The Department of Social Sciences occupies one of the most important places in the Institute of Economics and Social Technologies, because here we see flagship projects that are realized at a very high level, and you are witnesses to that. Every year I look at the program and the content of the collections. And I am very glad, because we see that not only our students from St. Petersburg universities participate in the conference, but from all over Russia and other countries. This speaks about the international scale of the event.

Deputy Director of the Institute of Economics and Social Technologies Alina Sher

It should be noted that representatives of scientific communities of the People's Republic of China, the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Republic of Belarus, Mexico and Tanzania took part in the conference “Humanities in the modern university: yesterday, today, tomorrow”.

University is not only classrooms and credits. University is people. As stated in Peter the Great's Decree on the establishment of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the University: “The university is a gathering of scholarly people”. It is in the communication of scientists of different generations that the atmosphere of the university is formed. And our conference is just the element of this atmosphere.

Head of the Department of Social Sciences Alexander Minin

The Institute of Economics and Social Technologies supports initiatives related to the development of research potential of teachers and students. In this regard, the Department of Social Sciences traditionally and steadily organizes “Humanities in a modern university: yesterday, today, tomorrow”, and in 2025 invites everyone to participate in the VIII conference.

The university is not only the foundation of Russian science, but also of Russian society, so it is necessary to hold such conferences in order to discuss the problems of modern university education and to create a space for a free scientific community.
