The University of Industrial Technologies and Design hosted the first in the history of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region ball “Stars of Student Sports 2024”. The ceremony brought together the most talented students and athletes, their mentors, representatives of the leading universities of the region and well-known figures in the field of physical culture and sports.
The award ceremony, which united the strength, talents and ambitions of many universities, became one more step towards the development and popularization of student sports in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region. The “Stars of Student Sports” Ball was created not only to recognize the merits of the winners, but also to create a space for communication, exchange of experience and formation of new ideas for the future development of student sports. The ball was organized by the Autonomous Nonprofit Organization “Directorate for the Development of Physical Culture and Student Sports of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region ‘Burevestnik’ and the Interregional Public Organization for the Development of Higher Education ‘Council of Rectors of Universities of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region’.
The program of the ball included awarding 17 educational organizations for their contribution to the development of student sports in the region, as well as awarding athletes, coaches and clubs in 18 nominations. The women's basketball club of the University of Industrial Technologies and Design “GUTID” became the best in the nomination “Triumph of the Year in the women's team”. And the coach of the basketball women's team of Ƶ Gennady Shchetinin received the title “The best coach of the women's team”.
Hockey club “Lesgaft University” was recognized as the best in the nomination “Triumph of the year in the men's team”. The best coach of the men's team was the coach of the sports club “Voenmeh” Mark Alexeev. Nikita Balakin, a student of St. Petersburg Mining University, won in the nomination “Discovery of the Year in Men's Individual Sports”. And in the nomination “Discovery of the Year in individual sports among women” two athletes won at once - Alevtina Kolesnikova, a student of the Baltic State Technical University “VOENMEKH” named after D. F. Ustinov, and Maria Balakan, a student of St. Petersburg Polytechnic University Peter the Great.
In the nomination “Leader of the Year in team sports among men” won a student of the Russian State Pedagogical University named after A. I. Herzen Roman Skorik, and in the nomination “Leader of the Year in team sports among women” won a student of St. Petersburg State University of Telecommunications named after Prof. M. A. Bonch-Bruevich Alina Koyusheva.
The best student sports club was recognized as the Student Sports Club “Black Bears of Polytechnic”. The winner in the nomination “Fan's Heart (best fan club)” was Student Sports Club “Nevskie Titans”. The title of the best sports media was awarded to the Student Sports Club “Armada”.
The best intramural sports events were recognized as the 3×3 Basketball League of the National Research University Higher School of Economics in St. Petersburg, the Gorny Football League, as well as competitions timed to celebrate the 300th anniversary of St. Petersburg State University. The Unmanned Aerial Systems Festival was the best sports initiative of the year.
The title “Sports Manager of the Year” was awarded to Ivan Zakharikov from ITMO University. And in the nominations “Photographer of the Year in Student Sports” and “Videographer of the Year in Student Sports” were won by Nastasya Tsvetkova, a student of the University of Industrial Technologies and Design, and Igor Trambovkin, Head of the Media Content Production Department of the Media Content Production and Social Design Department of Ƶ.
The prize of audience sympathy was given to the Pushkin State University. And the “Breakthrough of the Year” was named the Sports Club “Voenmeh”. Alexei Demidov, Chairman of the Council of Rectors of Universities of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region, Rector of St. Petersburg State University of Physical Culture and Sports, Anton Shantyr, Chairman of the Committee for Physical Culture and Sports of the Government of St. Petersburg, Oleg Gorelov, Deputy Chairman of the regional branch of “Youth of Russia” in the Leningrad Region, as well as Evgeny Shuvalov, a hero of the Special Military Operation, a confidant of Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, made welcoming speeches at the event.
