The international contest of designers and artists for the best costume of the heroes of Pushkin's works "Pushkin Ball" dedicated to the 225th anniversary of Alexander Pushkin's birth was launched in St. Petersburg with the support of Presidential Foundation for Cultural Initiatives.
The contest will become a bright event in the cultural life not only of St. Petersburg, but also of Russia. Young, ambitious, talented and daring fashion designers, fashion designers, jewelers, shoe and accessories designers, photographers from all regions of the Russian Federation, CIS and BRICS countries will be able to touch and immerse themselves in the heritage of Alexander Pushkin, in the world of his literary heroes and fairy-tale characters, show their creative, professional skills and competencies in the field of costume design in order to create fantastic images, theatrical and masquerade costumes, unusual spectacular accessories and highly artistic posters and photo posters, using the latest technologies and trends.
The aim of the contest is to realize the creative potential of the young generation in the field of culture, art and design and to create conditions for strengthening, friendship and development of further professional ties with talented young people from near and far abroad. The main objectives of the contest are popularization and promotion of Pushkin's creative heritage in the world, growth of in-depth study of Russian classical literature among young people and youth, creative comprehension of the best examples of Russian poetry.
The Pushkin Ball competition continues the tradition of the Grand Ball of Pushkin's heroes, which was first held in 1899 in the Tavrichesky Palace - in the year of the centenary of the birth of the great Russian poet.
The designers' works will be evaluated by the members of the Expert Council: professionals of the fashion world, famous cultural and art figures from different countries.
The results of the international contest of designers and artists for the best costume of the heroes of A.S. Pushkin's works "Pushkin Ball" will be summarized in early June 2024 within the framework of the final Gala-show. The works of the contest winners will be presented at the unique event, which will be held in one of the iconic places of St. Petersburg in the traditional format of balls of the late XVIII - early XIX centuries. The heroes of A.S. Pushkin's most famous works will come to life to the sounds of the famous melodies of Pushkiniana music.
Young designers from 14 to 45 years old who share a love for the cultural heritage and works of the great Russian poet are invited to participate in the contest.

It will be a grandiose ball, which will partly repeat the famous ball, which was held in the year of the centenary of Alexander Pushkin in the Tavrichesky Palace with the participation of heroes of Pushkin's works.
Alexey Vyacheslavovich Demidov, Chairman of the Council of Rectors of St. Petersburg and Leningrad region universities, Rector of St. Petersburg State University of Industrial Technologies and Design, Deputy Chairman of the Public Chamber of St. Petersburg believes that the team of the International Festival "Admiralty Needle" and in general the participation of the University "PromTechDesign" will be able to make a bright creative contribution to the organization and implementation of the project. An important part of the educational process is to expand the outlook of today's students, including in the direction of Russian national culture, poetry and the development of national creative industries. According to Lyubov Dzhikiya, Artistic Director of the International Festival of Young Designers "Admiralteyskaya Igla", - "Pushkin even in his works about 84 times drew attention to fashion, in particular, in the novel "Eugene Onegin", and, of course, if you consider the view of our classic on the phenomenon of fashion from this perspective, then for the guys, of course, there will be a lot of discoveries in the Competition, because the very era of Pushkin - classicism, empire gives a great imagination for creativity".
Elena Demidova, Director of the St. Petersburg Pushkin Foundation, noted that the project was supported by the Presidential Fund for Cultural Initiatives. The prize fund of the contest is 600,000 rubles. An open competition for the development of the logo and identity of the International Competition of Designers, Fashion Designers and Artists "Pushkin Ball" is also announced. The best entries will be presented at exhibitions in museums and other cultural centers associated with the name of A.S. Pushkin in different regions of Russia.
