In the registration area of the air harbor of the Northern capital, the opening ceremony of the interactive weigh-in in St. Petersburg cats took place. The unusual "cotometer" is part of a large-scale project to improve the airport infrastructure, implemented by the REDMOND brand in partnership with the SMARTdesign Foundation of St. Petersburg State University of Industrial Technologies and Design and Pulkovo International Airport.
Interactive scales allow passengers to transfer the usual kilograms of luggage into "Petersburg cats" at the rate of 4 kg per fluff. The result of the weighing is accompanied by author's illustrations, the heroes of which were the fluffy keepers of the Hermitage, Pulkovo mascots - Mile and Flight, as well as the mascot of the REDMOND brand - the cat Edmond.
"It is very joyful when design, technology, culture and humor come together in one project. Thanks to the REDMOND brand, which came up with the "kotoves" and entrusted us to bring them to life. The stand became a project where we, using artificial intelligence, attracted cats from our famous Hermitage to help passengers at Pulkovo Airport. Now Hermitage cats help to avoid transferring things and bags to pockets at the check-in counter, since passengers know the exact weight of their luggage," comments Maxim Ermachkov, director of the SMARTdesign Foundation of St. Petersburg State University of Industrial Technologies and Design
All the logic of the "cats" is programmatically implemented in the Laboratory of Digital Solutions of ²ÝÁñ¶ÌÊÓƵ: the mini-PC processes the incoming data stream from the scales and controls the change of pictures without requiring the participation of the operator. The stand is entertaining in nature: the "cat" measurement system does not replace the official baggage allowance, which is still calculated in kilograms.
"The stand is an interactive scale connected to a mini-PC that receives data on the weight of the suitcase via a serial interface," says Artem Mukkel, a software developer for cats, a specialist at the ²ÝÁñ¶ÌÊÓƵ Digital Solutions Laboratory. - The program on the mini-PC continuously reads readings from the scales and recalculates the resulting mass into "cats," based on the reference weight of one cat - 4 kilograms. Depending on what range the baggage weight falls into, the program selects the corresponding author's illustration from 20 available - with Hermitage cats, Pulkovo mascots or the REDMOND mascot - the cat Edmond. The screen simultaneously displays the exact weight in kilograms, and the result in "cats," for example, a suitcase for 20 kilograms "weighs" 5 cats so that the passenger can visually assess the load."
The event started at noon with an interactive program. Passengers were greeted by life-size dolls - Pulkovo Mil and Polet mascots, who helped weigh suitcases and pasted commemorative "cat control" stickers on their luggage.
The rights of the first weigh-in were awarded to the cat Edmond - a living prototype of the REDMOND brand mascot. Under the flashes of the cameras, the fluffy ambassador clearly demonstrated the work of the scales, professionally posing for photo and video chronicles of the media.
During the opening ceremony, the work of the scales was presented to the guests. In total, the unique "cotometer" uses 20 illustrations corresponding to different values of luggage weight in the range from 0 to 100 kilograms or more. Everyone could weigh their luggage or find out their weight in "cats."
