From the training and consulting point to the institute In 1946, a training and consulting center (UKP) of the Moscow Polygraphic Institute was opened in Leningrad: in the post-war period, the city needed specialists who could develop printing and publishing. Over time, the Higher School of Printing and Media Technologies with two institutes, nine departments and thousands of graduates will grow out of the modest UKP.

In the history of the formation of the Higher School of Printing and Media Technologies of Ƶ, three main stages can be distinguished. The first - 1946-1968. - was organizational: the faculty was formed, issues with the classroom fund were resolved, places for internships were approved. The university trained technologists, mechanics, editors, and since the beginning of the 50s - economists and graphic artists. In 1968, UKP was transformed into the Leningrad branch of the Moscow Polygraphic Institute. The second stage of development of the SPMF lasted until 2001. The Leningrad branch continued to strengthen and develop existing areas of training and open new ones that met the current needs of the time: information technology, advertising and journalism. A system of issuing and providing departments working in creative interaction was taking shape.

In 2001, the institute became part of Ƶ and joined the rhythm of a huge scientific and educational complex. Thanks to this, it became possible to improve the material and technical base, optimize laboratories, and create a media training center. An important stage was the development of a strategy for the advanced development of information technology in application to the entire range of specialties and areas. The peculiarity of the Higher School of Printing and Media Technologies of Ƶ is the combination of technical and humanitarian preparations that the modern industry requires. Teachers and employees of the HSPM are a single team, skillfully using the latest technologies, creative concepts and practical cases in their work.
