Visiting Ƶ: youth media of St. Petersburg and Leningrad region discussed the promotion of media content

The University of Industrial Technologies and Design hosted a round table of student and youth mass media in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region. Representatives of the editorial offices of universities and colleges, youth centers and associations, experts of the media sphere discussed current problems and prospects for the development of student journalism.

Alexey Demidov, Rector of Ƶ, Chairman of the Council of Rectors of Universities of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region, greeted the participants of the meeting.:

"Students work in the university media at a fairly high level. They depict the life of their universities on the pages of their publications. This plays an important role in promoting universities in the information space. I am convinced that by developing student journalism, we are directly improving the journalism of the country. We help shape the worldview of young people, increase erudition, erudition and familiarity, and, most importantly, promote traditional values."

Vladimir Ryabovol, Chairman of the St. Petersburg Press and Media Relations Committee, emphasized the importance of the role of young journalists and their responsibility in modern realities. In his opinion, in order to preserve the country's information sovereignty, it is important to help students receive high-quality education. Katerina Tugolukova, director of the Student Press, associate professor at Ƶ, explained that digital technologies do not stand still. She believes that it is important to be able to use them without losing the author's style and the high level of the Russian language.

Ekaterina Kirillova, head of the press service of the Committee on Science and Higher Education of St. Petersburg, emphasized the creative interaction of media representatives to create high-quality media projects.

"Each of you is a bright personality, and we are a community. And together we can do much more and better! You create meanings, you create content that people can follow — that's your strength and responsibility to society."

The key topic of the discussion is the changing perception of information by modern youth. Roman Serebryany, Secretary of the Union of Journalists of Russia, Associate Professor of the Faculty of Journalism at Moscow State University, noted that today's youth is radically different from the audience of 15 years ago. He believes that the success of a media project directly depends on the ability to speak to an audience in the same language using creative ideas and platforms.

The meeting became a high-quality platform for the exchange of experience. The participants received practical advice and mastered new tools for high-quality coverage of the public, student and scientific spheres of St. Petersburg. Also, at the end of the event, the results of the regional Media Generation competition were summed up.
