The graduation project of the graduate of Ƶ became the basis of a thematic train in the Moscow metro
18 February

A new themed train has been launched in the Moscow Metro, which turns every trip into an exciting journey through Veliky Novgorod and its surroundings. The design of the wagons was developed by the Rus Novgorodskaya tourist office, and Anastasia Andreeva, a graduate of the Institute of Graphic Design at St. Petersburg State University of Industrial Technologies and Design, became one of the key participants in the project.

Anastasia won first place at the "Master and Pupil" exhibition‑competition in 2024, and in 2025 her graduate thesis was awarded the diploma of the laureate in the "Book Design" nomination at the Graphic Worlds exhibition.

The project that became the basis for the design of the train was originally her thesis study, a travel guide to Veliky Novgorod. The work was highly appreciated by the graduation committee and the supervisor, which inspired Anastasia to further develop the idea.

The project has rapidly acquired a large-scale implementation:

"I received an offer that seemed almost incredible: to design a themed train "Novgorod Region" for the Moscow Metro. I became the sole designer of the project — with tight deadlines and huge responsibility. It is especially valuable that my previous achievements have come to life in the new format: fonts, illustrations, knowledge and love of my native land, invested in the guidebook. Now they have "rushed" along the rails so that thousands of people in Moscow can discover the Novgorod Region every day," Anastasia recalls.

Each carriage of the new train is a separate chapter telling about the rich history and culture of the region — from the origins of Russian statehood to the heroic pages of the Great Patriotic War. Passengers will be able to learn about the highlights of the Novgorod region, including theatrical and gastronomic festivals, historical reenactments and sports competitions, as well as get to know the characters of local legends and great names associated with the Novgorod land.

"This has become not just a professional task, but a deeply personal matter. My love for my hometown has taken on a large-scale format, combining a thesis and a project for the Moscow Metro. The work was carried out in close tandem with the Rus Novgorodskaya team. I thank them for their trust, well—coordinated cooperation and sleepless nights together — all for the sake of a common goal: to show the beauty of our region," Anastasia shares.

The train will run through Arbatsko‑Pokrovskaya line of the Moscow metro for six months. We congratulate Anastasia on a brilliant start in her profession and are proud that her work helps thousands of passengers discover the wonderful world of the Novgorod region.
