Maria Vagacheva, a student of Costume and Accessories Design at St. Petersburg State University of Industrial Technologies and Design, is the winner of the Grand Prix of the Russian Student Spring Festival. Maria joined the delegation of the winners of Studvesna in St. Petersburg and represented the university and the city in the final of the festival, which this year was held in Kazan.
In the direction of Fashion, Maria presented her collection Aquariums, inspired by the vast expanses of the sea enclosed in the glass walls of the Soviet aquarium. Maria won a cash prize of 100,000 rubles, beating 40 finalists in her field from different regions of Russia.

The collections were shown in the largest extreme park in Russia, Uram. For her fashion show, Maria Vagacheva independently chose models, as well as did their hairstyles and makeup. In total, the collection presented at the festival includes 13 images.
The collection "Aquariums" by a student of Ƶ has already won the Grand Prix of another All-Russian competition for fashion designers and designers — "Breath of Spring". In addition, Maria was among the ten finalists of the "New Names in Fashion" 2025 contest, which is dedicated to the discovery of young designers to the fashion world. At the same time, Aquariums was presented at the fashion show of the DLT competition, and one of the models was theater and film actress Daria Kukarskikh.

Maria's collection combines avant-garde modernity and Soviet motifs. It includes huge fish bags, giant trousers and futuristic sandals.
"The idea of this collection came to me spontaneously. I've been cultivating the concept in my head for a long time, knowing for sure that the future collection will be related to the sea and reef fish. Over time, it became more detailed, and the theme of the USSR was added, because I really love Soviet cinema — I grew up on it. So I found the very topic that touched me.: Soviet aquariums. In the USSR, almost every house had an aquarium, it was an unspoken tradition, part of the interior. And I thought about it: How does a reef fish feel when it accidentally finds itself in the Soviet Union? She's probably a little shocked, but she's trying to adapt to our mentality and climate, and in the finale of the collection she's adapting — you can see it in her images," says Maria.

While working on the collection, the student traveled to the Black Sea in Crimea, where she made her first sketches, diluting watercolors with sea water, and also collected stones, from which she then created shoes.

The main fabric in the collection is tweed, which resembles layers of water in its looseness and texture. Maria chose alpaca wool, faux fur and leather as additional materials. The designer created the shoes and accessories for the collection herself. For example, split-heeled leather ankle boots were molded from plastic using a pre-developed silicone mold. Beads and beads were used to decorate the products, some bags and shoes.
