Higher School of Technology and Energy of Ƶ — at the PulpFor exhibition
28 November

A delegation from the St. Petersburg State University of Technology and Energy represented the University at the largest international exhibition, PulpFor, dedicated to the pulp and paper, timber processing and packaging industries.

At the university's stand, the guests of the exhibition could get acquainted in detail with the key scientific developments and educational programs of the university, as well as student projects. In addition, Ƶ scientists participated in the PulpFor business program.

Andrey Bakhtin, Associate Professor of the Department of Information and Measurement Technologies and Control Systems, took part in a round table discussion on strategies to maintain a balance between demand and production capacity. In his report, he stated that the basis for the stable development of the industry market is trust between its participants, which is impossible without independent expertise. According to the expert, this role of the arbitrator is played by independent testing laboratories. Their importance goes far beyond dispute resolution: they train personnel for industrial laboratories and develop testing methods. Due to this, bona fide manufacturers receive a reliable partner for interaction, which ultimately leads to lower costs and improved product quality.

At a session dedicated to biocides as a tool for managing microbiological risks in the pulp and paper industry, Professor of the Department of Paper and Cardboard Technology Vladimir Dubovy presented the results of studying the state and prospects of using biocides in the pulp and paper industry.

The central event at the session on human resources and knowledge management was a speech by Anna Nikolaeva, Deputy Director of the Higher School of Technology and Energy at St. Petersburg State University of Industrial Technologies and Design. In her report, she outlined the acute problem of personnel shortages, from workers to engineering and technical specialists. The results of the study were presented, which revealed the main factors influencing the choice of work by graduates. The speaker also drew attention to the demographic forecast, according to which Russia will face a significant reduction in the working-age population in the next decade.

As a strategic solution to this problem, Anna Nikolaeva proposed active digitalization of production: the introduction of robotic systems and automated solutions. To implement this approach, it is already necessary to train engineers of a new format who combine fundamental industry knowledge with competencies in the field of automation and artificial intelligence.

At a round table on digital solutions, Natalia Andrianova, Head of the Department of Scientific Projects and Programs at Ƶ, made a proposal to create a Council of Industry Partners at the university, a digital and scientific platform for solving industry problems, including expanding the product line of CBP enterprises, solving technological and managerial tasks. The participants of the round table accepted the proposal and agreed to hold a separate webinar to address organizational issues.
