Egor Volodin, a student at the Department of Technology of Artistic Processing of Materials and Jewelry at the Institute of Applied Arts of St. Petersburg State University of Industrial Technologies and Design, reached the final of the International Design Perspective 2025 Competition.
This year's competition is supported by the Presidential Foundation for Cultural Initiatives and is not only a large-scale competition, but also an educational platform for designers. Many strong works from different cities of Russia were submitted to the competition.
Egor Volodin submitted to the competition a design for a set of chandeliers and a wall lamp in the constructivist style, popularizing the theme of space exploration.
The project is inspired by the idea of space exploration and the human desire to escape beyond the Solar system. The twentieth century was marked by an era of great scientific and technical achievements, the main of which was the human spaceflight. The space race has given people a dream — one day to conquer the boundless space. Gradually, the excitement subsided, and research became routine, but people still dream of traveling around the galaxy and conquering distant horizons.
The set consists of a chandelier and a wall lamp in the form of celestial bodies and orbits. The lamps are also art objects in the constructivist style. Today, products in this style are rare, so the expressive design of constructivism can surprise and attract the eyes of many, while they will fit seamlessly into most modern styles, become a good addition or even a dominant in the interior.
The main materials are glass, copper and steel. These materials have high aesthetic properties and durability. They emphasize the manufacturability of the products, creating a harmonious combination of warm and cold colors. One of the fundamental ideas of constructivism is functionality. The lampshades can rotate in the range of 90 degrees in two projections each and are equipped with LED panels with adjustable lighting intensity, which allows you to individually adjust the lighting of the space.
On November 29, Egor will travel to Moscow for the IX Forum of Young Designers. The winners of the competition will be announced there, as well as an exhibition of the finalists' competitive projects, where his project "To the Stars" will be presented.
Egor expresses his gratitude to the teachers of the Department of THOM Institute for their contribution to success, for their knowledge and for helping them unlock their potential, self-confidence and desire to develop further.
