Ministry training: a library designed by students of Ƶ will open by 2028
07 November

The library of game practices "BUKVA", the project of which was developed by students of the Institute of Spatial Environment Design of Ƶ, will be opened in St. Petersburg by 2028 on Bolshaya Porokhovskaya Street, 12/34.

The design is inspired by children's writers and includes a two-story book and game complex, a research center, a workshop, halls for interactive exhibitions and local history studies.

The authors of the project were Ƶ students Valeria Vasilyeva, Anna Potko, Tatiana Rigina, Ekaterina Fedyuk, who worked under the guidance of Evgeny Lobanov, Associate Professor of the Department of Interior Design and Equipment at Ƶ.

The project embodies the concept of "Through the lines to the letter." It reflects the points of intersection of the lines of the St. Petersburg metro and the work of children's writers: in the new library, each such "line" will represent a separate area with a unique color and its own literary theme.

The entrance area and wardrobe were inspired by the work of the great storyteller Evgeny Schwartz. The zone with the interactive exhibition "Coloring Book" was created based on the works of the naturalist writer Nikolai Sladkov. The Ladushki Children's Local History Hall is inspired by the work of Alexei Tolstoy, who wrote for both adults and children.

Korney Chukovsky, one of the main authors of children's literature, served as the inspiration for the creation of the library's research center, where the project direction of studying books using neuroscience will be carried out. In the "Rescue" workshop, where library guests will engage in creative work using digital tools, the interior design uses the theme of research by zoologist and journalist, the "voice" of nature Vitaly Bianchi.

The heart of the new library will be the two-storey book and game complex "Attic of Modern Culture". There will be a digital service with an archive of traditional games of the peoples of Russia, a comic zone and a hammock-coworking space where children can immerse themselves in reading and relax.

"A unique design project was developed by the winning team of the student architectural competition. It was held this year by the Central Library System of the district in cooperation with the St. Petersburg State University of Industrial Technology and Design. The key idea of the project is to create not just a library, but a real childhood laboratory, where the game leads to a book, and the book inspires the game," comments Andrey Khort, head of the Krasnogvardeysky district administration.
