27 September

Nikita Novikov, a graduate student at the Institute of Economics and Social Technologies of Ƶ, Deputy Director of the University Center for Student Initiatives, and Valeria Vasilyeva, Head of the Department of Student Media Projects at Ƶ, represent the university as mentors in the project "Your Budget in Schools." The project is organized by the Finance Committee and the Education Committee of St. Petersburg with the support of the city Government.

"Your Budget in Schools" is the city's initiative budgeting program, in which 9th—11th grade students from 90 schools in St. Petersburg will develop projects for the development of their schools. Participants will have an educational stage and a final presentation of their initiatives to the city commission, which will select 30 winning projects. Funds from the budget will be allocated for their implementation.

The sixth cycle of the project was launched at the Nevsky Town Hall, where more than 300 people gathered — representatives of the administration of St. Petersburg, schools of the city and mentors. Vice-Governors of St. Petersburg Irina Potekhina and Alexey Korabelnikov congratulated the participants on the start of the work.

"There are months of creative work ahead, working with schoolchildren on their ideas for transforming the urban environment. I am sure that this project cycle will be the most productive!" says Nikita Novikov, mentor of the project, Master's student at Ƶ.

"I have been acting as a mentor in the project for the second year. This is a serious experience, work requires a lot of energy, because it is a constant interaction with children. Last year, it was not possible to win a subsidy for the implementation of our project with the guys, so the plans are more than ambitious: I want to inspire students with bold ideas and take a grant for the improvement of their school. I expect a team drive and concentration from the guys before making estimates," said Valeria Vasilyeva.
