On April 13, 2025, first-year students of the Department of Tourism Business, under the guidance of Professor of the Department, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences Pogodina V.L., made an off-site tour of the key historical and cultural centers of the Pskov region.
The tour included visits to the Pushkin Mountains, Izborsk, Pechora and Pskov.
The first stop was the Pushkin Mountains. Russian grave of Alexander Pushkin The students got acquainted with the ensemble of the Holy Dormition Monastery of Svyatogorsk, where the ancestral tomb and tomb of the great Russian poet A. S. Pushkin are located. After that, the group went to the Petrovskoye Hannibal estate, where they inspected the park area, including the Grotto gazebo. The end of the visit to the Pushkin Mountains was an external inspection of the Mikhailovskoye estate, which allowed us to assess the characteristic landscape features of the estate complex. Due to the limited time, unfortunately, a visit to the Trigorskoye estate and an inspection of the Onegin Bench monument were not possible, but Pogodina V.L. told interesting facts about this estate and the monument during the guided tour on the way back.
The second point of the route was Izborsk fortress, which is of strategic importance in the defense system of the western borders of Ancient Russia. The students received information about the history of the fortress, which withstood numerous sieges. Special attention was paid to the architectural features of the seven towers of the fortress: Lukovka, Ryabinovka, Darkushka, Vyshka, Talavskaya, Kolokolnaya and the partially destroyed Ploskaya. The active St. Nicholas Cathedral was inspected on the territory of the fortress. In the immediate vicinity of the fortress walls are the Slovenian keys, which are associated with a local legend about their miraculous properties. A visual inspection of Gorodishchensky Lake with swans living on it completed the acquaintance with Izborsk.
The third point of the excursion program was the city of Pechora, located in the immediate vicinity of the state border. The students were introduced to the history of the city, founded in the 15th century and continuously developing over the centuries. Of particular interest was a visit to the Pskov Caves Holy Dormition Monastery, the uniqueness of which lies in the continuity of its activities, including during the Soviet period. The group was divided into two subgroups to conduct a guided tour of the monastery. During the tour, the monument "Our Pskov-Pechersk Ascetics" was visited, dedicated to the outstanding elders of the monastery, who made a significant contribution to the preservation of its historical and cultural heritage. There was a visit to the premises leading to the historical caves, which are the foundation of the monastery, but the direct descent into the caves was not included in the program and required additional payment.
The fourth stage was a visit to the Pskov Kremlin (Krom). On the way from Pechora to Pskov, Kristina Kuznetsova, a student of group 1-sd-20, conducted an information message about the history of the city. A visit to the Holy Trinity Cathedral, which has important historical significance for Pskov, took place on the territory of the Kremlin. The students received information about his role in key historical events, architectural features and interior decoration, including fragments of ancient frescoes and a multi-tiered iconostasis. A photo session took place at the monument to Prince Dovmont, which is associated with a local student tradition.
The final point of the excursion route was the Monument in memory of the Ice Battle, located in the vicinity of Pskov. Russian soldiers under the leadership of Prince Alexander Nevsky in the Battle of Lake Peipsi in 1242, which was important for preserving the independence of the Russian lands, are commemorated in this monument. After the inspection of the monument, a group photo was taken, after which the students went to St. Petersburg.
Despite the richness of the program and the considerable duration of the excursion, the students expressed a unanimous opinion about its high information content and received vivid impressions from exploring the historical and cultural heritage of the Pskov region. Moreover, many students decided to return to the region for a more in-depth study of its tourist potential.
It is very important for students of the 43.03.02 "Tourism" direction to know how to properly conduct such events. During the entire tour, Pogodina V.L. gave recommendations on this issue, paid attention to the nuances in the work of the guide. The Department of Tourism Business expresses its sincere gratitude to the Rector of the University, Professor Alexey Demidov, and the Directorate of the Institute of Business Communications for their assistance in organizing and conducting this tour.
