13 March

Pancakes, round dances, Russian outfits, traditions, melodies and dances: this is how the Sarafaniada festival was held at the Engineering School of Clothing (College) of the University of Industrial Technology and Design. The event was held at the university for the first time, and its organizers explain the need for students to immerse themselves more deeply into the rich Russian culture and make their creative contribution to its preservation and development.

Russian Russian students presented their handicrafts at the fair, got acquainted with traditional Russian amusements: they performed round dances, played in a stream, fought in the battle of connoisseurs of Russian culture and significant personalities of the country, ate pancakes. A real celebration took place in the concert hall. A fashion show unfolded in front of the audience as part of the Sarafaniada competition of the same name. The participants created modern creative costumes that reflect the spirit of a traditional sundress, but at the same time fit into a modern context.

The festival concert continued with the awarding of the winners of the city art competition "Russian Gift", which has been held at the St. Petersburg State University of Clothing Engineering for the third year in a row. The competition tasks involve participants turning to the traditions of Russian craft and performing creative work in one of the nominations inspired by different types of painting. This year, the theme of the competition was guslitskaya painting. More than 100 students created works of art in the categories "Letters", "Sketch of decor for a modern design object", "Decorative and stylized still life using motifs of Guslitskaya painting", "Realistic still life depicting products decorated with Guslitskaya painting", "Fantasy image".

And, of course, what kind of festivities without performances by artists: singers and dancers. Russian Russian Folk Dance Group, the Honored Folk Dance Group Rhythms of the Century, and the Cossack Song ensemble Sakma performed like a kaleidoscope of Russian motifs in front of the audience, and not a single person in the audience was left indifferent by their performance.
