The long-awaited opening of the exhibition dedicated to St. Petersburg design schools within the framework of the competition “Young Design 2024” took place in Sevkabel Porto. The event became a real celebration for art and design connoisseurs, providing a unique platform to showcase the works of students and teachers from the city's leading universities, including the University of Industrial Technology and Design.

The exhibition space is divided into zones reflecting a wide range of design trends: costume design, accessories, arts and crafts, industrial and graphic design, UX/UI design, virtual fashion. Each of these zones demonstrates a unique approach to design and emphasizes the diversity of views and ideas that exist within the St. Petersburg design community.
Among the exhibits of Ƶ are app and website design projects developed for business companies, digital fashion shows created for HC SKA, FC Zenit, and for the Russian Retail Show in Moscow, and industrial design objects. The authors are students of Ƶ.
As for grafdesign, during practical classes at the university they master the basics of UX/UI design, as well as skills of user interface design, work on their projects in the Figma graphic editor, think through the structure of the future project by developing a user path, learn how to compose and interact with the design system by customizing components and styles. The final product of the semester work is a design layout and prototype of the application, including state windows and UI-kit.
As for the FashionTech zone, it was digital clothing and integration with augmented and virtual reality technologies that was an important focus of the exhibition. Such technologies at Ƶ allow students to interact with digital outfits in real time, creating impressive visual effects and immersing them in a new world of fashion.
The centerpiece of the exposition is a designer dress from the “Hermitage” collection by Olga Malyarova, a graduate of the University of Industrial Technologies and Design, winner of the 18th and 19th seasons of the International Festival of Fashion, Art and Design “Admiralteyskaya Igla” established by the university. The collection is dedicated to the history of the Winter Palace and the Romanov era. The dress is made of natural silk satin, silk velvet with the addition of moldings covered with gold leaf and reproductions of paintings.

Another digital exhibit of Ƶ was multimedia: one of the projects jointly realized by PromTechDesign University, VK Education and the open creative platform Prostor from VK, namely an exclusive media performance “Graffiti 3024: Art of the Future in Cities” was demonstrated on the screen. The event featured unique presentations of works by young media artists exploring the theme of urban environment development and transformation of urban space.
The University of Industrial Technologies and Design also presented a number of jewelry pieces made in the casting technique. Among them: the ring “Anastasia” made of white and yellow gold, carnelian, emerald and diamonds, inspired by outer space, Egyptian mythology and zodiac symbolism, rings “Khepri Ra” and “Atum”, also made of white and yellow gold, carnelian and diamonds and inspired by Egyptian mythology. Another interesting piece was the “Hour of the Bull” ring made of white and yellow gold in the shape of the constellation “Bull”. In this technique, the exhibition also presents cufflinks and a ring with the symbolism of Ƶ, made of silver, a kaf earring made of metal, based on the motifs of Vologda lace, a ring made of metal, designed on the motifs of Skopinsky ceramics, a metal ring based on Russian tiles, a metal ring based on traditional lapte weaving, a metal pendant in the form of a spindle, as well as a ring with a cold enamel pattern based on traditional Gzhel painting.

In the technique of laser cutting the designers of the university presented a brooch “Hands” made of steel and amber in the form of graceful hands of the actress opening a bottle of perfume, a necklace “Eagle” made of brass and ornamental stone, inspired by Egyptian mythology and solar symbol of spirituality, strength, power and victory, “Willful Decision” pendant made of steel, acrylic and smoky topaz, inspired by the desire for a healthy lifestyle, as well as a set of butterfly and cufflinks “Nature”, created from plywood and inspired by flora.
At the exhibition, young jewelry designers from Ƶ also presented a number of chess pieces based on folk tales using the 3D modeling method and embodied in glass. Among them are the figures “One-Eyed Daredevil”, “Bogatyr”, “Raven” and “Kashchey the Immortal”. In addition, the collection includes a brooch with a view of the building of the Ƶ on Voznesensky Avenue, made of wood and ultraviolet resin, a ring made of a spoon handle as an example of the secondary use of objects was to create jewelry, earrings and necklace “Web of Time” handmade of steel and ring “Needle”, inspired by the basic tools of many Russian folk crafts - needle and thread. Their images are complemented with amber, a stone often used in Russian arts and crafts.
The zone of spatial design of Ƶ reflected the thesis that through the organization of space architects and designers design the very way of life of people, hence their great responsibility to society. For more than thirty years of training of environment designers in Ƶ hundreds of qualified specialists, brought up on the principles of healthy organization of space for people's life, have been graduated. In diploma projects of different years a wide range of tasks of environment arrangement is presented - from interiors of residential units and public institutions to architectural and town-planning concepts. The focus of Ustinov's school of architecture and design is the human being and his relationship with society and the environment. The projects are “spatial images of human existence in certain spatial and temporal conditions”. This means that typical design and construction has nothing to do with architecture and design. The organic principle of space arrangement “from inside to outside” has become the leitmotif of all significant projects of young designers of Ƶ.
The exhibition runs from September 19 to October 02, 2024 and is open to everyone from 12:00 to 21:00.
