The role of neural networks in modern book publishing will be discussed by industry experts at the forum in St. Petersburg State University of Industrial Technologies and Design

On April 22 and 23, 2024, the Second promising Forum of the new book industry "The Life of books in the world of hybrid Technologies" will be held, organized by the St. Petersburg State University of Industrial Technologies and Design in cooperation with the Book Industry magazine and JSC First Exemplary Printing House. The partners of the event will be the Association of Book Publishers of Russia, the Association of Book Distributors and the House of Books in St. Petersburg. The Forum will be attended by writers, heads of national and regional book publishers, as well as the largest bookselling networks from 16 regions of Russia.

On April 22, at 16:00, in the assembly hall of the main building of the University of Industrial Technologies and Design at 18 Bolshaya Morskaya Street, a plenary session of the Forum will be held in a joint format with the School of Publishing Excellence. The best experts in the book industry — writers, publishers and marketers — will discuss the use of artificial intelligence and neural networks in the creation of books and their promotion, as well as the danger of delegating human cognitive, social and economic functions to machine algorithms. The event will be held in the format of a book battle, where for the first time artificial intelligence itself and its "trainer" Dmitry Andriyashkin will become one of the participants.

The director of the V. I. State Museum of the History of Russian Literature will also take part in the discussion. Dmitry Bak, philologist, literary critic, professor at the Russian State University for the Humanities, Evgeny Kapyev, General Director of EKSMO Publishing House, Pavel Podkosov, head and editor-in-chief of Alpina Non-Fiction Publishing house, Anna Titova, Executive Director of Peter Publishing House, writer, translator, literary columnist Vera Bogdanova, author of the project "Classical literature in graphic Novels" Alexander Poltorak, Production Director of Ridero publishing service Maria Ryavina, curator MM, MA, Sotheby's Institute of Art Certified (New York/ London), Anna Voronkova is a member of the International Association of Art Critics. The discussion will be moderated by Svetlana Zorina, editor-in-chief of the Book Industry magazine, President of the Association of Book Distributors, and Konstantin Antipov, head of the Information office of the Ƶ, scientific director of the Forum.

"Neural networks belonging, it would seem, to the super-complex levels of mathematical models are capable of effective actions in the humanitarian space. They open up truly incredible horizons in front of the book business," Natalia Lezunova, Director of the Higher School of Printing and Media Technologies at Ƶ.

"Neural networks significantly affect all the processes of the book's birth and life. And this has already outgrown the format of experiments, which opens up not only favorable prospects for the book industry, but also significant risks. Artificial intelligence replaces humans, and this puts serious pressure on the phenomenon of books in society, the training system for the book industry, changes the reader, the book trade, library and bibliography. Our Forum is a comprehensive informal discussion, the main topic of which can be defined as: "Artificial intelligence — without risk to life," comments Konstantin Antipov.

On the International Day of Books and Copyright, on April 23 at 10:00 in the St. Petersburg House of Books (Nevsky Prospekt, 28), a seminar will be held, which will be attended by experts from Ƶ, the Association of Book Distributors and the Association of Book Publishers of Russia. They will discuss the interaction of publishers and bookstores, as well as the expansion of assortment policy in terms of the sale of books by national and regional publishers.

In addition, a digital battle of graphic design students on the theme "Chekhov is with us" will be held within the framework of the Forum. With the help of AI technologies and neural networks, student teams will create and defend their work, and a competent jury will select and award the best.
