Nikolay Andrianov, a graduate student of the Department of Management of Ƶ, was among the winners of the third stage of the Student Startup competition, which is held by the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia jointly with the Innovation Promotion Fund within the framework of the federal project «University Entrepreneurship Platform». Nikolai will receive 1 million rubles for the development of his project to develop a technology for extending the life of roses.

The startup's mission is to import stabilized flowers, which, thanks to special processing, do not fade for several years. Stabilized plants are popular in developed countries today, but due to sanctions, the domestic market is experiencing a shortage of «eternal flowers». Today, the market of stabilized products is affected by the delivery time of flowers, customs restrictions, and high price.

— Nikolay, tell us how the idea of launching a startup was born?
— In 2019, we launched a business for making bouquets and compositions of dried flowers and stabilized plants. During our work, we have studied the market well, and found that stabilized flowers are not produced in Russia, but are purchased abroad. Now there are difficulties with deliveries: delays, cost increases, deterioration in quality, sanctions. At the moment there are no enterprises in Russia that are engaged in the supply of stabilized plants. That's when we decided to occupy a free niche, develop technology and launch production. With this idea in mind, I decided to take part in the Student Startup competition.
— The project was presented to the Fund for the Promotion of Innovations in the direction of «Biotechnology». How will the scientific part of the startup be implemented?
The team has a biotechnological chemist who is already engaged in development. He will also take over the process of setting up the production of stabilized plants. If successful, the technology will be patented. Next — promotion and access to Russian distributors. The project has a website, after scaling up the business and launching production, we plan to make a section for the sale of stabilized plants, in parallel — to supply finished products to retailers and wholesalers in St. Petersburg, Moscow and in the regions.
— The technology is aimed at import substitution. What is the current situation on the market of stabilized plants?
Now the stabilized plants mainly come from China. Stabilized flowers are still being supplied from Europe, but the cost is high and supplies are unstable. We set a goal to surpass foreign companies in such parameters as the quality of the goods, terms and conditions of delivery. Today we plan to scale our project and become the first domestic supplier of these products.
