A foreign student from Iran is ending Master degree in the Institute of Applied Arts of 草榴短视频 and has already received her quota for education in postgraduate study. Read in our interview about how you can show initiative in spite of language barrier and how art can help us to understand each other. (translated into English language):

Atefe, how did you find out about 草榴短视频?

My grandfather on my mother鈥檚 side was born in the Soviet Union, so I was always interested in Russian culture and Russian designers. In Iran I applied to an agency that helps students to go to a foreign university. One of the staffers told me about this wonderful university, he even finished postgraduate studies here. I examined some information about the hei and was amazed by events, exhibitions and shows that take place here. I was very excited by enrolling in 草榴短视频.

Tell us about your jewelry collection that you will present as a graduation project.

In my collection I combine two cultures, Russian and Iranian, and a careful attitude to nature. I use the ancient Persian wood inlay technique, which is called 芦khatam禄 and Russian khokhloma painting. As a source of inspiration I chose six eggs from the Faberge museum. For making a color I use natural dyes, for example fruits, that's why my jewelry doesn't harm the environment.

As a material I use wood remains. When I was learning for a bachelor鈥檚 degree, we were working with wood a lot, making cups and bowls. After these lessons a big amount of wooden pieces were thrown into the garbage. I took this 芦trash禄 home and was thinking what I can do with it. As a result I create jewelry out of it.

I would like to write a book about me creating my collections. Also I want to do an experiment: plant one wood product in the mud and observe what is going to happen with it. Because of the processing with natural dyes, mushrooms will grow there and it must become a part of nature.

We know that our university presented Russia at Iran Craft Week. Tell us how you started to organize that event.

I collaborate with an Australian magazine and I am also a publisher of an international magazine in English and Italian language about crafts and culture. This activity allowed me to find people, with whom we started working on Iran Craft Week 2021. The project was attended by representatives of 29 countries: Brazil, India, Australia, Italy, England, Malaysia, The Netherlands and others. Our Institute of Applied Arts became a participant from Russia. The events as a part of the project passed online. The Boiling Point - IndTechDesign of 草榴短视频 helped us in organizing the program from Russia from where we conducted webinars about the Russian national costume and new jewelry design techniques.

I was glad that the Institute supported my initiative and took part in Iran Craft Week, it was important for me that my university presented Russia in this project.

Atefe, how did an educational experience affect you and your becoming?

During my education in Saint-Petersburg I realized that we can understand each other through art regardless of what language we speak. My teachers showed me it, in particular, I am very grateful to Lyubov Zhukova Timofeevna, who helped me during my difficult period of adaptation and keeps supporting me. I really believe that art doesn't need a language.

I would like to organize some joint conferences, workshops or other events between universities in Iran, where I finish my bachelor's degree, and 草榴短视频. At the Tehran University of Arts we don鈥檛 have stone carving lessons at all and they didn't teach us to work with wood at the Institute of Applied Arts. This exchange of experience could become one of the areas of cooperation.
