Artyom Mukkel, a graduate student at the Department of Intelligent Systems and Information Security at St. Petersburg State University of Industrial Technologies and Design, is designing an intelligent robot guide with the function of conducting a dialogue with visitors. The robot is equipped with an AI system that allows it to conduct personalized excursions, answer visitors' questions in real time and adapt the route to the interests of the group. Artyom's project became one of the winners of the Student Startup competition from the Foundation for the Promotion of Innovation, and its author became the owner of one million rubles for the launch.
The system designed by the young scientist includes indoor navigation, speech recognition and voice synthesis, and a knowledge base about the exhibits. The main advantage is the opportunity to provide high—quality tour service 24/7 with a personalized approach to each visitor. Artem plans to introduce the robot in museums and galleries, exhibition centers, shopping malls, tourist sites and educational institutions, airports and train stations, office centers, and educational institutions.
Now the startup is at the stage of a laboratory prototype, there is a prototype of the basic navigation system, a demo version of the dialog module.
"The modern tourism industry needs innovative solutions to increase visitor engagement. Traditional guided tours have limitations: dependence on the guides' schedules, language barriers, and a standardized approach. There is a growing demand for personalized services and round-the-clock availability of information. The robot guide solves these problems by providing an individual approach to each visitor."
the startup believes
Today, the Russian equivalent of a tour guide robot is a Russian service robot for shopping malls, but it has limited dialog capabilities. There are also isolated developments of robot consultants, but they lack specialized solutions for sightseeing activities.
