Students of Ƶ have developed a design project for the academic building of Irkutsk university
26 June

Students of the Institute of Spatial Environment Design at Ƶ have developed a design concept for the Irkutsk State University of Railway Communications (IrGUPS). The designers had to create a project for one of the floors of the university's academic building, where there are three computer labs, a common corridor, a coworking space and a recreational area. The project of Alexey Koryakin, a student of the University of Industrial Technologies and Design, won the competition for the best design concept.

Representatives of Irkutsk University suggested that the designers of Ƶ develop a futuristic space that is suitable for teaching and conducting hackathons, lectures and seminars using digital technologies. For the computer classroom, the customer proposed to create a transformable space for 20 ergonomic computer workstations, including a place for a teacher, access points to communications for connecting laptops, places for charging devices, a mobile partition for delimiting zones and a recreation area. In the recreation area, according to the terms of reference, vending machines for distributing laptops and tablets, coffee and snacks, screens near the auditorium with a schedule of classes and occupancy of premises, and a video surveillance system were required. Coworking is a workspace with 3-4 seats and a recreation area designed in a minimalist style.

In addition, the technical requirements include: a PTZ camera for VCS, a place for a server rack, air conditioning, a speaker system, an LED screen, augmented reality glasses, disarming and opening classrooms with a campus card, marking the presence of a student and a teacher, adjusting the temperature and illumination of the premises, background music for breaks.

Students of the Institute of Spatial Environment Design of Ƶ presented digital 3D models and visualizations of design projects, drawings and plans, consolidated cost estimates, as well as brief descriptions of the main technical solutions to the jury of the competition. The jury evaluated the functionality, ergonomics, originality, aesthetics, versatility and safety of the space.

The project manager was Andrey Zuev, Associate Professor of the Department of Spatial Environment Design at Ƶ.

The first place in the competition was taken by a project developed by Alexey Koryakin, a student of St. Petersburg State University of Applied Sciences. His technical solution for the corridors of the IRGUPS academic building includes the installation of two interactive screens, through which students will be able to find out class schedules, classroom occupancy, the latest news, and will also have the opportunity to visit the university's website. According to the project, an automatic lock is installed near each office, which opens using a campus card. Next to the coworking space there is a vending machine with the delivery of laptops, tablets, chargers. The classrooms are equipped with an artificial intelligence video surveillance system, on the basis of which a computer face recognition scheme has been developed. The software implementation of the system, which automatically maintains the electronic log of the group, has been completed. Two interactive screens with a speaker system, 22 computers with a shared server, two air conditioners, and a cabinet with augmented reality glasses are installed. The coworking space is equipped with four computer desks with built-in computers.

The second place in the competition was taken by the project of Alexandra Marishchuk, a student of Ƶ.

"The issue of interior design of educational institutions is always relevant. It directly affects the psychological state of students, their motivation and even the level of assimilation of the material. Research shows that a properly organized space can significantly increase productivity and creativity, so it is important to create a space that promotes learning and development, as well as taking into account environmental and emotional aspects," says Alexandra Marishchuk, a university student and author of the project.

When designing interiors for Irkutsk University, Alexandra paid great attention to the choice of materials, colors and functionality of the premises. Her project implements the interior design of the university with an emphasis on emerald and green colors, the design of computer classrooms and the creation of a vibrant coworking space. The choice of color plays an important role in creating the atmosphere of an educational institution. Emerald and green are the key colors in this project. These shades are associated with nature, tranquility and harmony. They stimulate mental activity and improve concentration, which is especially important for students.

The third place was taken by the project of students of the Institute of Spatial Environment Design of St. Petersburg State University Ekaterina Zubareva and Vladimir Kharin.

The color and stylistic solution of the project is based on the IrGUPS brandbook. Key brand colors were used: deep green, burgundy, light neutral shades. Color accents help visually zone the space and maintain brand awareness. Deep green is used in wall elements, partitions and zoning modules. Burgundy sets the contrast and accents the seating areas, furniture niches. The light floor and ceiling create an airy effect and visually expand the space. To make it easier to find an audience, it is suggested to navigate by color signs (each room has its own color) — they are conceptually associated with bookmarks between book pages.

In addition, Ekaterina and Vladimir have developed a design concept for a recreational area, where soft transformable modules, niches for waiting, relaxation and informal communication, places with tables are located along the corridor. At the end of the recreation area, behind a glass partition, there is a public space for small groups of up to 12 people.

The computer lab, designed by Ƶ designers, takes into account modern educational requirements. The capacity of the auditorium is twenty workplaces. The modular organization of the space is implemented through an innovative zoning system. The classroom is divided into two functional areas by means of a movable partition, which allows you to flexibly transform the space depending on the format of the classes. The multimedia equipment of the classroom includes a modern marker board and projection equipment for demonstrating digital materials. A projector installed in the auditorium allows you to broadcast content from various sources onto a white wall.
