Rector of St. Petersburg State University of Industrial Technologies and Design Alexei Demidov:

Colleagues, today we have a serious date: on 26 April 1930 on the basis of the Practical Technological Institute, which was founded in 1828, the branch universities - Textile Institute and Chemical Technological Institute (now - Technological Institute) - were established.

The Textile Institute later became the Kirov Leningrad Institute of Textile and Light Industry. S.M. Kirov Leningrad Institute of Textile and Light Industry, then since 1992 - St. Petersburg State University of Technology and Design. Since 2015 - St. Petersburg State University of Industrial Technology and Design.

All this time the university has preserved traditions and continuity of scientific and pedagogical schools laid down by the founders.
