The University of Industrial Technologies and Design hosted lectures as part of the School of Sytin's Business. The event was organized by the Graduate School of Printing and Media Technologies of Ƶ together with the “First Sample Printing House”. The lecturer was Elena Rymshina, art historian, teacher, curator of independent projects. The meetings were attended by about a hundred people from St. Petersburg, Tomsk, Moscow and Nizhny Novgorod.
At the public talk “On trends and techniques of modern Russian book illustration” the participants discussed the works of St. Petersburg and Moscow artists who won the highest awards of national and international illustration and book art competitions. Student designers together with the expert tried to understand what is “through” illustration and book layout, why an artist's cover is always better than a publisher's one, how animation techniques can help in a drawn book and, on the contrary, why every good illustrator dreams of becoming a stage designer, what is the relation between stage design and book layout, why an author's book or an artist's book is relevant again.
The meeting “Modern Russian Book Design of the Last Decade” brought together experts in the field of graphic design.
“Today book design is becoming a universal system of inventing and directing visual stories, when with the help of the modular grid or its violation, ideal, calibrated or, on the contrary, very expressive layout, thanks to the precisely chosen book format and the system of proportions of the inner block and cover of the book, thanks to the constructive and functional relationships of printed text and visual material, you can understand a lot without any additional verbal comments.”

The experts discussed the iconic book design of Mikhail Bychkov, Evgeny Grigoriev, Nik Teplov, Boris Trofimov, Evgeny Korneev, Dmitry Chernogaev, Andrey Shelutto and Irina Chekmareva (Faro studio), Igor Gurovich, Anna Naumova, Kirill Blagodatskikh, Natalia Agapova, Alexander Vasin, bureaus of Dmitry Barbanel, Stepan Lipatov, Maria Cheloyants, Dmitry Gusev, Kirill Zaev, Maxim Rodin, Svetlana Danilyuk, ABC-design and its art director Dmitry Mordvintsev.
