Scientific testing Laboratory of biodegradable materials opened in Ƶ
26 December

The scientific and educational center "Scientific Testing Laboratory of Biodegradable Materials" has opened at the Higher School of Technology and Energy of Ƶ. The equipment for the laboratory was provided by ORBIS, which is a partner of the university in educational and scientific activities. In the new educational and scientific center, students and scientists of the university will be able to test the latest quality control devices for paper, cardboard and packaging materials, as well as interact with enterprises in the field of independent product expertise.

The scientific testing Laboratory of biodegradable Materials was established at the Department of Automation of Technological Processes and Productions of Ƶ in cooperation with ORBIS LLC in order to bring the training of specialists of the department to a qualitatively new level.

Victoria Sokolova, Deputy Director of the Ƶ Higher School of Technology and Energy for Advanced Development and Innovation:

"The educational and scientific center will allow for a qualitatively new level of training in areas related to automation, metrology, paper, cardboard, packaging and packaging production technology, conduct scientific research and testing of raw materials and products according to the laboratory profile, as well as train and retrain scientific, pedagogical and industry specialists and improve their skills at based on the integration of educational and scientific activities of the university and “ORBIS” company.

The laboratory's equipment allows you to compare and develop test methods, evaluate the accuracy of measuring instruments, and is focused on methods for evaluating the quality of paper and cardboard (punching, tearing, bending, determining interlayer strength, smoothness, thickness, humidity, and various types of compression of samples), as well as corrugated cardboard. In addition, the laboratory has a compression testing press for boxes and other containers and packaging.

The laboratory is equipped with a crimping machine, a device for determining the resistance to cardboard penetration, a device for measuring internal interlayer strength, accessories for testing adhesion strength, a press for testing compression boxes, a sample cutter, a device for determining paper stiffness during bending, a device for determining compressive resistance at a short distance, a device for compression testing, an automatic a Becca smoothness meter, an RCT sampling cutter, and a set of RCT test accessories, a cutter for sampling during stiffness testing, a halogen moisture meter for paper, an electronic paper thickness gauge, an electronic Elmendorf device.

"We hope this project will be a good help for companies and industries that do not have their own quality control laboratories. In the future, with the support of colleagues from the St. Petersburg State University of Technology and Energy, we plan to conduct independent tests at the demolab. We are confident that together we will be able to make the demolab a truly effective project for the development of the pulp and paper industry in Russia."

Andrey Neklyudov, CEO of “Orbis”

In the future, it is planned to expand the educational and scientific center with the capabilities of laboratory pulp cooking and paper casting and paper pulp quality analyzers. This will make it possible to create a mass preparation laboratory similar to the existing ones at CBP enterprises.
