The Rossiya 1 TV channel presented a new large—scale project - the historical drama Stolypin. The main role in the premiere series was played by Alexander Ustyugov. Alexey Aranovich, Professor of the Department of History and Theory of Art at St. Petersburg State University of Industrial Technologies and Design, a specialist in the history of military costume and logistics, took part in the creation of military and uniform suits.

"If we talk about the complexity of working on creating images, then I not only created images, but I dressed the characters. My main job is as an assistant costume designer, that is, I dressed all the military, jailers, gendarmes, policemen, officials when they appeared in uniform dresses, including the main character, Pyotr Stolypin, selected awards, insignia, and graduation badges for them. As for the military, it was the easiest thing to do, since I have been professionally engaged in this topic for more than twenty-five years. This is what my textbook, which was published in 2005 at the University of Industrial Technology and Design, and my joint monograph with a graduate student, consisting of almost six hundred pages, published in 2020, are about."— says Alexey Aranovich.

It should be noted that Professor Aranovich is engaged in uniform as an accredited expert on cultural values of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation. According to him, the experience in previous films helped significantly in the work on the drama Stolypin: "Harpastum" directed by Alexei German Jr., "My Own Life" by Alexander Rogozhkin, "Wings of the Empire" by Igor Kopylov.

"Difficulties arose, perhaps, with the creation of images of jailers, policemen, gendarmes, ministers. But the professional ability to work with archival materials, orders and circulars of relevant departments, as well as extensive personal connections among collectors helped. I have learned a lot from working with museum collections and archival materials in the leading archives of the country and abroad."

Alexey Aranovich also starred in several episodes of the drama.

"Thirty-five years of experience in military historical reconstruction helped here. I have been interested in military reconstruction of this era since 1989. Therefore, in the scene telling about the tragedy at the Kiev Opera, I was filming with my costume. And in the scene of the execution of rioters in the Sveaborg fortress, I played the commander of the execution."

Filming of the series took place on the streets and palaces of St. Petersburg, as well as in Saratov and in the village of Nikolskoye in the Gatchina district of the Leningrad region. For the filming, an exact replica of the Farman IV aircraft was made, on which Lev Matsievich flew. And Alexander Yatsenko, who played the legendary pilot, was also lucky: the props managed to get an antique leather aviator jacket. The buttons were replaced and rearranged especially for filming. They also found antique aviator glasses, exactly corresponding to that era. The aviator was helped to dress by Vyacheslav Golubyatnikov, a graduate of the Department of History and Theory of Art of Ƶ, a student of Alexei Aranovich.

As for the clothes, the costumes were sewn individually for all the main characters. They also partially sewed costumes for extras, mainly work jackets and shirts. Almost all the small details for military uniforms were made to order: cockades, buttonholes, shoulder straps.

The historical drama directed by Alexei Andrianov ("Sofia", "Godunov" and "Grozny") was created by the Moskino film studio with the support of the Institute for Internet Development (ANO IRI). When writing the script, the main documentary source was the materials of the book by the famous economist, politician and businessman Fedorov "Pyotr Stolypin: "I believe in Russia", as well as Stolypin's personal correspondence, memoirs of contemporaries and a number of other historical materials and scientific research.

The central images and supporting roles in the Stolypin series were embodied by Alexander Ustyugov, Alexander Yatsenko, Stasia Miloslavskaya, Pavel Popov, Ekaterina Volkova, Yuri Nasonov, Sergei Barkovsky, Daria Konizheva, Maria Paley, Boris Kamorzin, Alexey Morozov, Pavel Trubiner, Ivan Agapov, Andrey Urgant, Vladimir Yumatov and others.

In one of the episodes, Alexander Gorbatov starred as Fyodor Chaliapin. The actor appeared in a costume that was sewn for the biopic "Chaliapin". The Stolypin group also inherited handmade street signs and costumes from the project.
