Anastasia Utina, a student of the Institute of Graphic Design of Ƶ, was among the winners of the XXIX International Student Competition for the best packaging design “A Clockwork Orange-2024”. In the nomination “Packaging for confectionery products” Anastasia received a bronze medal for the project of a souvenir set of beekeeping products “Kuzbass”, as well as a laureate diploma for the project “Series of labels for products ‘Family apiary Utina’.

The contest “Zavodnoy orange” is organized by the interbranch magazine of the packaging industry “Tara and packing” together with the Group of companies “Double B” with the support of the largest manufacturers of packaging products. This year 305 works from 37 universities and colleges of Moscow, St. Petersburg, Vladimir, Gzhel, Kemerovo, Krasnoyarsk, Chelyabinsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Pereslavl-Zalessky, Pyatigorsk and Ulan-Ude, Minsk, Vitebsk and Yerevan were submitted to the contest.

I chose this particular nomination and honey as a product because my family owns a family apiary. For our brand, I designed the gift set packaging and labels for our products. The design is timed to coincide with a federal event - the celebration of the anniversary of the opening of the Kuznetsk coal basin in 2020. The design concept draws attention to this significant date and emphasizes that Kuzbass honey is a gustatory and aesthetic pleasure.

The packaging of the souvenir set is a plywood box in the form of a map of the Kemerovo region - Kuzbass. On its surface with the help of laser burning technique the student has drawn settlements of the region. The set contains only six jars of different honey. The jars have the shape of hexagons, i.e. bee honeycombs. They are placed on a base with slotted round holes to secure the bottom. The top is put on 4 footrests and secured with sliders. The set holds the jars firmly and allows the products to be seen.

In addition, Anastasia presented labels for different types of honey: buckwheat, linden, meadow, taiga honey from Gornaya Shoria, as well as honey with fillings, including cherry and almond, strawberry and hazelnut, pine nut and candied cone. All labels are in the same style with images of wild herbs and flowers from which bees collected honey.

Labels are designed in accordance with the requirements and rules of labeling, they contain details of the manufacturer and a recognizable logo. There is a space left on the label for a typed ink stamp. They are made of moisture-resistant materials so that it is possible to easily wipe the can with a damp cloth. Self-adhesive labels can be easily attached to any container without prior application of glue, they are made of polymer film with full-color printing.

The project was supervised by Alexander Kutlinsky, Associate Professor of the Advertising Design Department of Ƶ.
