Today we remember an important and memorable date for the whole of Russia — 80 years since the end of the Battle of Leningrad.
The Battle of Leningrad lasted from July 10, 1941 to August 9, 1944, for 1127 days. During this time, the country lost about a million Soviet soldiers and more than 800,000 civilians. Constant attempts to unblock Leningrad held significant enemy forces, preventing them from being transferred to other sectors of the front.
On this day, August 9, 1944, the Vyborg-Petrozavodsk operation ended, which became the final stage of the battle, which led to the complete lifting of the blockade of Leningrad.
More than 350 thousand participants of the battle were awarded, 226 of them were awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union.
We remember this day and are proud!
