The St. Petersburg State University of Industrial Technologies and Design (Ƶ) hosted the heads of leading city media, journalists, political scientists, marketing experts, advertising and PR experts to talk about technologies and trends in the creation and promotion of media projects. Alexei Demidov, Rector of Ƶ, noted that for 15 years the City Student Press Center, which unites the city's youth editorial offices, has been working on the basis of the university, which annually allows students of the city's universities to obtain the necessary knowledge and skills to improve the quality of their university media. "In our country for students today many conditions have been created for full self-realization, for manifestation and development of talents, for getting practice in different spheres, including the media industry. Our forum "MediaStart" is one of those projects where smart, talented media-active young people can get the necessary knowledge from the heads of St. Petersburg media, get acquainted with colleagues from different cities and CIS countries", - emphasized Alexey Demidov.
Vladimir Ryabovol, Chairman of the Committee for Press and Media Relations, addressed the young publishers and journalists: "You and I live in a very interesting time. Probably now, despite all the difficulties our country is going through, in the period of transformation of modern media, their changes and the challenges facing our society - the society and government representatives need your talents, ideas and new projects that you are presenting at the MediaStart forum, which, of course, will take their place among print and electronic media, among new media channels".

Katerina Tugolukova, Director of the City Student Press Center of Ƶ, addressed the guests of the forum. She noted that every year at the forum not only topical issues of the media sphere are discussed, but also new initiatives to create creative projects appear. She also spoke about the fruitful work of the Press Center for 15 years since its foundation.

During the round tables the experts discussed trends and traditions of the media sphere in the work of the largest St. Petersburg media, and also told where to look for reliable information.
Inna Karpushina, Head of the Press Service of the St. Petersburg Governor's Administration, when asked what qualities a young specialist should have in order to be hired in the press service, said: "If you can see the problem, highlight the main things, are able to carefully collect and analyze facts, and also write well and interestingly, you can try".

Ekaterina Kirillova, spokeswoman for the Committee on Science and Higher Education, noted that it is always important to check sources: "In the era of 'fakes' and 'hypes', pay attention to reputation. This is a very important thing for a journalist who respects and values his or her audience, and for the sources with whom the journalist works. Don't be taken advantage of by those who try to use you, and be sure to double-check your information'.
Kirill Smirnov, editor-in-chief of the St. Petersburg Diary newspaper, noted that the media have begun to focus on the development of social networks. Their format of presenting information has changed. However, traditional mass media do not lose their relevance, and in recent years, readers' trust in them, on the contrary, has increased. In connection with the situation in the world, global changes can also be attributed to the methodology of media work. The work of the media has been reformatted in terms of compliance with legislation.
Alexander Potekhin, Chairman of the Association of Mass Media of North-West Russia, Director of the TASS North-West Regional Information Center, noted the negative changes in the media sphere with the appearance of the Telegram social network. A global amount of information that affects society has appeared.
Igor Pavlovsky, editor-in-chief of Delovoy Peterburg, spoke about the change in the model of information consumption with the emergence of social networks. In his opinion, the reader has begun to filter incoming information more carefully. The task of the media is not to lose its reputation and relevance in this competition.
Naira Papovyan, General Director of Channel One - St. Petersburg, also expressed her opinion on trends in the work of St. Petersburg media: "Today it is very fashionable to say: "I don't watch TV", but I would like to remind you that the Internet is only a channel for delivering information to the end consumer. After all, the content on TV, radio, and newspapers is prepared by journalists of a particular publication".
Boris Grumbkov, General Director of JSC "Publishing House "St. Petersburg Vedomosti", spoke about recent changes in the media sphere, such as the rapid development of Telegram channels as sources of information. He also noted the renewed interest of readers in the printed press. Another important technical progress was the introduction of new technologies in the printed press, which allows for faster dissemination of information and increasing the media audience.
Within the framework of the forum an agreement was signed between Zhanna Lyukshina, General Director of Radio Zenit, and Alexei Demidov, Rector of Ƶ.
Within the framework of the agreement it is planned to implement educational, cultural, patriotic projects, as well as sports events of St. Petersburg and the country between Radio Zenit and the City Student Press Center of St. Petersburg State University of Industrial Technologies and Design.
Zhanna Lyukshina noted that radio is a classical media - a real treasure trove of beauty, peace and inspiration. But once it was available only on radio waves. Today, thanks to digital, we can enjoy radio content anytime and anywhere there is an internet connection. Social media is turning classic radio into something more.
The fact that trends are rapidly changing in today's society was emphasized by Angelika Gurskaya, Director of the North-West branch of Rossiyskaya Gazeta, who expressed the opinion that it is important for the media to remain relevant in order to keep users' interest. Among the most unexpected changes in recent times, the speaker attributed the amendments to the legislation: permissiveness in the formation of content has disappeared, financial anarchy in advertising has gone. The state control has formed information security.

Dmitry Solonnikov, a member of the Public Chamber of St. Petersburg, spoke on the topic of information reliability in mass media: "Each of us lives in an artificially constructed information world. The question of fighting against fakes is a question of one's own faith".
At the panel discussion "Self-employed Journalist or Blogger?" international experts discussed the issues of training specialists and the peculiarities of working in the media.
Artem Shalyakin, founder of the information portal "Delta.News", emphasized that there is no worse comment for a journalist's interlocutor than "we don't comment". "This gives the journalist the moral right to interpret the situation in any way he wants, without being guided by the opinion of one of the parties, because this opinion simply does not exist. But the task of a real professional journalist is to establish contact with the interlocutor and persuade him to reflect his position. This is professional work'.
Other areas of media production were also discussed at the forum. Ekaterina Vengrinyuk, head of the marketing department of the information and entertainment portal KudaGo, revealed the secrets of forming a personal brand: "Prepare all the information about yourself: goals, education, experience, qualifications. If you are studying, indicate all projects, conferences and events in which you participated. Don't forget to improve your work skills and learn how to present yourself."
Daniel Kostinsky, producer and director of the Night of the Advertising Eaters project in Russia, also shared his experience with the guests and participants of the event.
