Students of Ƶ among the winners of the hackathon of the Engineering Division of Rosatom

The team of St. Petersburg State University of Industrial Technologies and Design and Lomonosov Moscow State University won second place in the finals of the hackathon of the Higher Engineering School of MEPhI, which was held in the Moscow office of Rosatom's Engineering Division. The AtomHack hackathon was designed to help the best IT specialists of the nuclear industry find employment.

The St. Petersburg university team was represented by students of the Graduate School of Technology and Power Engineering of Ƶ: Daniel Hernandez Garcia , Svetlana Odintsova, Yuri Makarov, Anton Svetlolobov, Timofey Shidlovsky, Alisa Kapustina; MSU was represented in the team by student Yulia Matyunina. The team acted as developers and system analysts in solving a case from AtomStroyExport.


At the qualifying stage, the participants wrote a program complex (UI/UX and program approach) for scientists working in a fantastic laboratory on Mars. The task conditions had to take into account that the connection to Earth was unstable and data had to be sent in the most reliable way possible.

Next, teams performed a task that took them to the year 2150 to the planet Nova Terra with several operating nuclear power plants. For these stations, the participants had to develop a software solution in the form of a chatbot that automates technical support for ecosystem users. The software prototype developed by students from Ƶ and MSU solved the problem of 24/7 availability of technical support by using a neural network to answer standard questions from NPP employees. Students gained skills in system analysis of the subject area, were able to master the basics of SQL language, software testing and interface development.

The hackathon was attended by 17 teams, 144 people from different regions and universities of Russia. The best participants will be invited for interviews and further employment in AtomStroyExport or partner companies.
