Tsarevna Swan: the dress of a graduate of St. Petersburg State University of Industrial Technologies and Design will again appear on the catwalk of the Miss Universe pageant
02 November

Olga Malyarova, a well-known St. Petersburg designer and graduate of the University of Industrial Technologies and Design, has once again become the creator of the dress that will be presented by Russian contestant Margarita Golubeva at the international Miss Universe pageant in El Salvador. The designer was inspired by the Romanov era, Russian fairy tales, Russian gems and Mikhail Vrubel's painting "Tsarevna Swan". The dress will see the Russian woman take to the catwalk to present the national costume.

The outfit embodies the rich Russian culture. To create the dress "Tsarevna Swan" 300 meters of tulle, French lace, pearls and jewelry were used. All these elements were combined in a delicate, graceful corset and a lush skirt with a spectacular train.

"I have been working on the creation of this dress for over a year. It is embroidered with river pearls and zirconium jewelry. The corset is covered with French lace, the pattern of which is made in the Russian style. The skirt is sewn from multiple layers of tulle - we invented this new technique to create a feeling of endless layers, reminiscent of waves, sea foam and swan wings. In addition, the shape of the skirt is designed in the form of folds. To complete this look, I sewed a kokoshnik. The process turned out to be very complicated, but it turned out perfectly! The kokoshnik uses the same stones as on the dress, copied the shape from Vrubel's painting, added a veil of organza and stones to make Miss Universe shine like a real tsarevna. The result is such a bright image of the Swan Princess, which can be immediately guessed", - says Olga Malyarova, a designer and graduate of St. Petersburg State University of Industrial Technologies and Design Olga Malyarova.

Vrubel's painting is dedicated to a character from Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's opera "The Tale of Tsar Saltan", based on Alexander Pushkin's fairy tale of the same name. The painting depicts the artist's wife, Nadezhda Zabel-Vrubel, who also performed the role of Tsarevna Swan in the opera.

The dress is part of Olga Malyarova's Hermitage collection, inspired by the magic of the Winter Palace, gala receptions and imperial balls. Last year, the graduate of the University of Industrial Technologies and Design already created dresses for Anna Linnikova, a contestant from Russia in the Miss Universe contest. One of them was also included in the Hermitage collection and was called "Crown of the Russian Empire". The dress made of Italian velvet and studded with river pearls and semi-precious stones was inspired by the crown of Russian Empress Catherine II. The Russian went out in it during the show of national costumes. The second dress by Olga Malyarova was intended for the evening dress show and was called "Red Diamond". For it 45 thousand rhinestones of several shades of red were used to get a deep color.
