The famous Saint-Petersburg designer and graduate of the Institute of Costume Design of SUITD Olga Malyarova created the dress «Crown of the Russian Empire», which will be presented by russian contestant Anna Linnikova at the international contest «Miss Universe» in the USA. Olga used red velvet, freshwater pearls and semi-precious stones to create the dress, and the crown of the Russian Empress Catherine the Great served as her inspiration.

According to the rules of the contest «Miss Universe» in one of the outputs contestants must demonstrate the national costume of their country. The foreign audience primarily associates traditional Russian clothes with a sarafan and kokoshnik, so the appearence of Anna Linnikova should pleasantly surprise the jury and the audience. «Miss Russia — 2023» will appear before them in a dress symbolizing a different period of our country鈥檚 history.

— When creating my dress, I was inspired by the crown of the Russian Empress Catherine II. For me, this crown is the most luxurious piece of jewelry and art in general, — said designer Olga Malyarova.

As in the original crown an important component of the dress of SUITD graduate is red velvet, which is used to make a mantle, like a royal. Instead of diamonds Olga embroidered her dress with zirconium, added pearls and decorated it with ruby crystal. A total of about 3 000 semi-precious stones and 400 freshwater pearls were used to create the dress. Anna Linnikova will walk down the catwalk of the main beauty contest in this splendid costume very soon.

Anna also chose a piece by Olga Malyarova for her defile in evening gowns. The elegant silhouette dress is studded with rhinestones and called «Red Diamond», for its creation the designer uses 50 thousand stones, Italian silk organza and several shades of red for deep color.

— I am very happy that Olga provides us with such gorgeous dresses to participate in the contest. They make me feel unique. The dresses exceeded all of our expectations. It is a great honor to represent Olga Malyarova as a designer on the international stage, — commented Miss Universe contestant Anna Linnikova.

The «Crown of the Russian Empire» dress is a part of a new, not yet finished collection by the graduate of SUITD called «Hermitage» inspired by the magic of the Winter Palace, the luxury of imperial balls and receptions.
