11 March

On 11 March 2022 an international scientific and practice conference named “Actual problems of Monumental Art” was held in the main building of Ƶ, designed to unite monumental artists, art theorists, culturologists, art historians, philologists studying the problems of monumental painting and sculpture. This season, the event is dedicated to the 130th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding Russian master of monumental art Pavel Korin. More than 100 authors from Russia, Bulgaria, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Vietnam and China presented their materials.

The author of the idea of the conference and the creation of the competition-exhibition is a representative and follower of the Saint-Petersburg Academic classical school of painting, Candidate of Art History, head of the Department of Monumental Art of Ƶ Daria Antipina: “Currently, a muralist can fulfill not only a state order, but also in connection with the growth of private property, the construction of houses and cottages - to accept orders from their owners to the design of interiors and exteriors in various painting and decorative and applied techniques.”

In addition to the exhibition-competition “Creative Spring”, the conference will host workshops on stained glass, mosaic, artistic enamel, tapestry, as well as a round table “Modern monumental painting: traditions and innovations”. Representatives of monumental schools from different regions of Russia will take part in the discussion.

“Keeping up with the times, an artist should put into practice achievements in the field of modern technologies, but only a fundamental art education, the ability to depict objects and objects by traditional means, can guarantee success in the field of monumental painting. The past year has been fruitful for us, exhibitions of students of the Department of Monumental Art were held at the B.V. Johanson Lyceum, in the exhibition hall in Kronshtadt at the M.K.Anikushin Art School, within the walls of the university. Every month we organize “Creative Meetings” - a project aimed at introducing, first of all, students of the creative directions of Ƶ with artists, poets, musicians and art historians of Saint-Petersburg,” added Daria Antipina.

Reference: the organizer of the event is the Department of Monumental Art of the Institute of Design and Arts of Ƶ. The department trains muralists, specialists of a wide profile who are able to fulfill both state orders for the decoration of public buildings, including religious buildings, temples, and orders from private individuals. Graduates of the department are engaged in easel painting and graphics, restoration of art monuments, teaching and cultural and educational activities.
