The exhibition dedicated to the 200th anniversary of Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky opened in Saint-Petersburg

On 4 of June, 2021, the exhibition contest of design projects called “D200” was opened in the walls of the Literary memorial museum of F.M. Dostoevsky on Kuznechny lane 5/2 in honor of the 200th anniversary of the great writer.

Organizer of this event is Institute of Graphic Design of Ƶ. The exhibition is designed to tell about a significant event in 2021 using visual language – the 200th anniversary of the classic of Russian literature Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky to emphasize the importance and scale of his personality in Russian history. According to the organizers of the event, it is aimed primarily at the youth audience, but, undoubtedly, it will arouse the interest of everyone interested in the life and work of the classic.

At the exhibition, you can see works made using a wide range of graphic techniques, a variety of design products such as: posters, guide maps, including digital projects and multimedia videos. The works presented at the exhibition call for studying the life and work of the great writer, reading his works that have not lost their relevance today. The participants of the exhibition tried to convey the feelings and emotions that arise when they come into contact with the writer's work, using visual language.


The exhibition was solemnly opened in the walls of the F. M. Dostoevsky Museum on Kuznechny Lane by Director of Institute of Graphic Design in Ƶ Alina Sukhareva, curator of the exhibition, researcher of the Museum, chief artist of the publishing house “Arcadia” Tatiana Chubukova, associate professor of Ƶ Alexander Andreychuk, Head of the Department for Educational Work at the University Lyudmila Vinogradova and Head of the Department of Graphic Design in the art space Marina Kuznetsova.

“Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky is an outstanding Russian writer, thinker and philosopher. He discovered the Russian world, mysterious Russian soul for everyone and continues to discover today, remaining one of the most quoted and translated writers in the world,” says the Director of the Institute of Graphic Design of Ƶ Alina Sukhareva, “For us this exhibition at the Memorial Museum of F.M. Dostoevsky is a great honor, as well as an opportunity to demonstrate the careful attitude, understanding and love for the work of Dostoevsky representatives of the modern generation of graphic designers of the 21st century, who dedicate their work to the 200th anniversary of the great writer.”


The director of the museum Natalia Ashimbayeva noted the high professional level of the works and the non-trivial view of the students of the University of Industrial Technologies and Design on Dostoevsky's art. The authors of several works interested her in terms of future cooperation with the museum. Alexander Andreychuk said that the tourist industry of the city has already become interested in some of the posters and guidebooks included in the exhibition.


Anyone can visit the exhibition until June 23, 2021. Then the expanded exposition will move to the exhibition hall of the University of Industrial Technology and Design and will be on display until the birthday of the great writer. It is on this day that the results of the competitive selection will be summed up, in which international graphic and multimedia designers will also join. The competition projects are presented in 8 nominations: visual technique in a poster, image and idea in a poster, typography in a poster, idea in a guidebook map, graphic image in a guidebook map, printed graphics, easel composition, multimedia poster.
